I was diggin' it hard. I think Prince and his spies have read all the negative reviews that people have written and I bet he's going to step it up even more just to prove a point. This was just to warm us up. I know it's going to get hotter than Hades! __________________________________________________

I like the lyrics of the song. One thing that I oftern lament about today's music is that it is not politically minded. I know that at 33 I'm old by today's standards. However, I always loved artists like Frank Zappa, Parliament Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, and Prince who had political commentary in their music. It shows that they are aware of the world that they live in.
Today's artists seem stuck on either singing about relationships/sex, the club or bragging about what material excess they have. It is refreshing to hear someone talk about something else. I mean we've had a war that has lasted for years, killed thousands and cost billions, yet I cannot point to any major artists who've mentioned it in a song. I think it is a shame that adding political content to music is consired outdated or preachy now. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Peace Joe Kelley That's what I wanted to add. Keep in my mind, I haven't heard studio version yet. I thought jam was cool. It started drifting into a Musicology kinda thing but then switched into a Parliament/Funkadelic thang. Then it was done. Can't wait to hear studio version. Tonight. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I kind of have a problem with Prince making strong statements in his interviews about him not voting or how having a political stance is a waste of time, but then casualy sings about the same topics for publicity or attention.

I think the performance was good, and he seemed into it, but the song itself was no better than any number of songs he's done since Come On that have no melody/hook.
It was good music, and I thought the band was really good. I particularly thought the backup singers were better than I've typically heard live from him. While I don't remember the song, the title, the lyrics, the music, anything, I do remember thinking that it wasn't bad, at least. The lyrics didn't sound too cheesy or simplistic/preachy. Decent funk jam with the same melody he's been rocking for 15 years. My Legacy

I liked the performance for what it was. Could have done without the harmonica player.
Loved the "ya'll can kiss my ass, my feet hurt" flip-flops. At all the people who people who are surprised that Elisa is not still a slim size 6. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In other words, instead of naming this one Old School Company, perhaps he should have just called in The Work Part VIII because that's about how many times we've heard the same basic formula now. No Candy 4 Me

Was this supposed to be one of the better tracks from the 2 cd's?
I thought it kind of bland for him. Still a fan though.

In my case, no. I'm waiting for the Target release and haven't checked out any previews. I'm just judging the performance version - I hope the album version is more sonically exciting/interesting. I'm just judging the performance version - I hope the album version is more sonically exciting/interesting. well if i had to compare it to other songs i would have to say it is like a cross between 3121 and FUNK with a healthy dose of IT sonically. it's got a dragging beat driven by immensely heavy and dark synth stabs the vocals are delivered in a camille sort of way, although less "silly" than the real camille vocal. plus it's finally a return to prince stretching out and giving a song the room to breathe. there's crazy guitar stomped out on top of that beat which stays the same all through the song but *seems* to become more sinister and menacing as the song creeps on. all the while prince throws in mad add libs and silly comments and in the BG old skool chicken scratching galore. I LOOOOVE THIS SONG and i'm not just easily impressed or someone who like all things he does or exagerates for the heck of it. i'm telling you, you'll like it and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

The performance was OK for me, but kind of redundant with a lot of similar Leno performances over the last few years - hence, my Work Pt VIII comment. No Candy 4 Me

I like what you are saying. So the Leno live version is obviously not a fair rendering of the song. He played it safe and did a The Work Pt??? version. He prolly didn't have the time to invest in a proper rendition. Imo. Now I'm really looking forward to hearing this. Fantasy is reality in the world today.
