I lover Under the Cherry Moon
it's totally different than Purple Rain
it's a concept of an idea that he had (Paisley Park) it's more abstract
but I don't think that idea was communicated thru the film.
The film by itself was good, you can tell toward the end where Prince took over direction.

I think it would have been a alot more successful if there were some Revolution performances or even other protege performances: Jill Jones, the Family, Sheila E. It could have broadened the audiences awareness of his Purple empire. And he music from the Family & Sheila that came out in conjunction with Parade is really good and matches Parades music

It didn't have to be like Purple Rain as far as the bands are concerned, but because he was a musician/gigolo in the movie there could have been urban scenes where his band was playing with him... like just background playing interractions (there were 1 or 2 spots where he was working-playing the piano)

It would have been cool if the Girls & Boys video was a part of the movie the way they busted into the dinning/party room.

Even having a hippieish living commune with Sheila Jill Jerome Prince Revolution members living together would have been interesting.

I thought the black n white wouldn't work but it made it colorful, I like the black n white and how the light and shadows play, the clothing was colorful and really added to the visuals

I think his interraction was too much like Morris Day & Jerome from Purple Rain.
But I did like it, I thought Prince did good in some parts like the beginning playing the paino scene, at the party where he ended up on the couch and other scenes, I like the movie

Under The Cherry Moon is my fav, I can't get enough. I love Christopher and Tricky's style and humor.
Purple Rain is awesome, I watch it every now and then.
Sign O' the times, love it, music is HOT HOT HOT
GB~ um its, ok....not his best of course, but he is at an all time "sexy" in this movie.

3 Chains of Gold, umm well.... confused

You're in the business?

It must be exciting
Is that what turns you on?
What do you mean?

It's all I dream about
And U?
What do U dream about?

(Wasn't Purple Rain originally title Dreams? by Prince)

PRINCE TALKS
BY NEAL KARLEN

That's what the movie's going to be about. Paisley Park is the only way I can say I got over it now. Paisley Park is the place one should find in oneself, where one can go when one is alone. -Prince

Electrifying Mojo Interview with Prince 1985

MOJO: What's the difference between making a hot movie and making a hot album?

PRINCE: There is no difference. There have been people who have tried to tell me contrary to that, but like you said before and like I said before, I strive for perfection, and sometimes I'm a little bull-headed in my ways. Hopefully, people understand that there's just a lot on my mind and I try to stay focused on one particular thing. And I try not to hurt nobody in the process. A movie is a little bit more complex, but to me it's just a larger version of an album. There are scenes and there are songs, and they all go together to make this painting, and...I'm the painter. Y'all is the paintees. (Mojo laughs.) Hopefully it's something that you can get into. Jerome Benton stars in this new film with me and he's on his way to becoming very, very big. I'm real proud of him. He takes direction well and he gives direction well and I expect a lot of big things from him.

MOJO: Prince, speaking of the movie, Under the Cherry Moon...could you tell us a little bit about that?

PRINCE: Um...God, I hate to blow the surprise though, you know?

MOJO: Without blowin' it -- we know it's gonna be in black and white...

PRINCE: Yeah, it's gonna be in black and white...

MOJO: ...and we know it's gonna be quote unquote "helluva."

PRINCE: Yeah, it's gonna be that. It's gonna be that. All I can tell you is that you'll have a good time. I'm hoping that everyone understands where I was trying to go with it. It is like an album for me, and I put my heart and sould into it and I worked very long and very hard. Jerome did the same, and there's a message behind it all and I hope people think about it when they leave. That's the main thing. It's a lot of fun, but there's something to think about when it's over. You know, there's a reason for everything.

Graffiti Bridge is so stupid! The acting is so bad! And the sets are all made of plastic in a studio somewhere. Such low budget. But some coolish per4mances by the man.

you know prince didn't even like the released versions of 'under the cherry moon' and 'graffiti bridge.' supposedly he threw a big fit before the release of 'utcm' complete with laying the floor and screaming because it was, and i quote, 'shit.'

'graffiti bridge' was cut and recut because wb wouldn't accept prince's vision for the film. what we saw in theaters is very different than prince's scripts. he was reportedly pretty miffed about how that one ended up as well.

that said, i love both movies. biggrin

i've seen purple rain. and never watched it again. i've very indifferent about it. and i've watched sign o' the times.

but what are the others like? graffi bridge and under the cherry moon? (i think thats all?)

Sign of the Times is one of the best concert films ever. Unfortunately it was 'dubbed'.

None of Prince's other movies are 'good'; however, for a rock musical, Purple Rain is as good as it gets. Just watch any rock & roll musical by the likes of Kiss, Elvis or Mariah Carry, and you'll see. lol

UTCM is meh. But funny if you "get" Prince.

Graffiti Bridge demands an apology from Prince moreso than the entire PFU ordeal.

Yup and his later excuse was that he simply couldn't direct a script he didn't write himself.

'graffiti bridge' was cut and recut because wb wouldn't accept prince's vision for the film. what we saw in theaters is very different than prince's scripts. he was reportedly pretty miffed about how that one ended up as well.

Well, his scripts were exceptionally weak to begin with and filming the movie on sets instead of real locations didn't help any, either.

In the end, I think UTCM is more watchable as a movie while GB is best looked at as an extended play music video. 3 Chains O' Gold is probably more enjoyable than GB, as well. lol

I feel odd when people talk about Prince's films, since I haven't seen any of them. Even Purple Rain.

I think I'll rent it this weekend. I keep on missing the reruns.

With the exception of Graffiti Bridge, I find them all quite enjoyable, if flawed here and there.

The both suck.. But as a "movie" Under the Cherry Moon is better then Graffiti Bridge.

But...

Graffiti Bridge is more campy - cheesy & really better because of its music/concert scenes.

1) Purple Rain
2) SOT
3) Under the Cheery Moon
4) Graffiti Bridge

Sign o the Times as a concert movie was really good.
The disappointing side was that he was supposed to tour the US with the SOTT concert, but decided to record it and release it as a concert movie.

Most people didn't understand what that meant, and went looking for a movie.

That move didn't do well for him. I for one was expecting the US concert and was ready to go when he it the states.
Luckily I have enough SOTT concerts and aftershows at home.

But the concert movie was really good.
I first read about the new revue thru Interview Magazine
after the album came out.

This is the picture that was used.

It was an exciting review and I was ready.

I think the stage set up from SOTT is the best.
They did a good visual interpretation of the SOTT songs
We got a good introduction to the band. Sheila E shined on the drums

Sign o the Times
Play In the Sunshine
** Little Red Corvette
Housequake
Slow Love
If I Was Your Girlfriend
I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man
The Cross
It's Gonna Be Beautiful Night
U Got the Look
Forever In My Life

Not much to say as a 'film' but the performances was very live and exciting
I loved the Peach Cloud
I loved the outfits
I don't care what anyone says Cat is the only dancer that has worked a stage with Prince the it should be workd.
The colors the lights, the black leather trench
Peach & Black
We got Jill Jones, Madhouse La La La He He Hee Shockadelica
One of his best eras
