Critical Acclaim Late in Career

How many artists who have already achieved legendary status have released such a critically acclaimed record this late in their career like LOTUS FLOW3R? This speaks volumes to me and it is the reason he has remained my favorite artist over the years.

Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen... But yes, I think Prince has aged extremely gracefully despite what the haters think.

Madonna?

Prince hasnt wow'd any critics since '87 and even then the praise was initially faint and then picked up by then of the year.

I appreciate the list of artists mentioned. I guess I should add that no individual legendary artist (that has been routinely criticized and publicly bashed so much) has gotten up off the ground, dusted himself off and come back hard like this. He has had to overcome things that some of these artists have not over the years. Like the disaster of projects like Under the Cherry Moon movie and the name change (a built in joke for the public and comediennes alike).I doubt that some of the artists mentioned could dig down deep and find what made them great in an industry that celebrates youth.

Critical Acclaim? From where? USA TODAY? I do not really see these new releases getting much critical acclaim. I will say that I am pleased with about 1/3 of the songs, kinda like his last 3 or 4 releases. It is a shame though because if he had just scaled down all these tracks to one cd he could have gotten a lot more attention. Instead, we have Emancipation all over again where we have to sift through all the tracks to find the gems.

You don't have to sift through that much this time around.

I kind of wonder if he has been hanging on to these ideas/albums for just the right moment to drop them as though the other most recent releases were a prelude to these mega successful albums, I have to say so far love these way more than 3121 and PE
