Wow...I actually like "Another Boy" and "Here I Come"...and I understand and agree with the point of this thread, but why not give the girl a chance? Regardless of what we think, Prince will always have a 'protege' and there will always be an opportunity for a girl to be one. Her voice isn't that bad but I concur. &

I heard her vocals the other day from a video clip on Access Hollywood. Should be quite interesting to say the very least. Go 'head and get your Jon Stewart on! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Anxiety said: here's how i look at it:
i think prince always needs to have a female "version" of himself to interpret the considerable amount of his songwriting that he wants to record, but doesn't feel should be coming out of the mouth of a man. we all know about his gemini spirit, his man+woman persona, his androgenous streak...i think bria is, if nothing else, the latest mouthpiece for this aspect of prince's songwriting. let's face it, we know it's not going to be an album showcasing a great set of pipes (like tamar) or great musicianship (like sheila e.), so what we're left with is a producer-driven album (in other words, a prince album) with a woman interpreting the lyrics instead of prince. it's no different than a britney album - those are basically showcases for the producers, with britney's technologically uber-altered voice crammed in the mix. at least with bria, i imagine what we'll hear is closer to what the singer really sounds like that on most of those pop tart albums. I think that's a very astute observation. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: Seriously. What I've heard of this Bria brood, not impressed. I'm more entertained by Britney Spears at this point. Does Prince not think that we notice that the only reason some of his proteges got a gig is because his dick said so?
It's always been amazing to me that such a musical genius could occupy and fill is time and energy into these damn bimbos who have nothing to offer. At least Vanity sang about her twat but really, the talentless lineup should have ended there. Are people satisfied that Prince's first opus since Emancipation contains an album of someone else's filler? Is Prince really that out of ideas and emotional commitment that he couldn't fill a third disc with more music? Wendy and Lisa couldn't sing for shit, but at least they were talented musicians. Perhaps the straight men around here are satisfied to look at some hot broads face but is that why you're a Prince fan, to live vicariously through his bedroom? Ladies, how can you stomach it? . [Edited 3/20/09 14:32pm] So Supa, what happens if Prince decides to make you his protege? Can we get more songs like Superfunkycalifragisexy?

I'm not going to judge her or her album, but I could appreciate her more if he had her up on stage between the drummer and keyboardist singing back up for him like at the NY 21Nights book show or the house aftershows, put her in some lace leather and ruffles and tweak my interest that way...

If U have the specific, Prince-favored physical appearance, have no history of any credible singing experience (and aren't a naturally quick learner with outstanding natural vocal skill U didn't know U possess), then yes, U would get a fully produced and released album too. I did. Her album was a solid R&B album with some great songs... with a live band sound (reminded me of Mint Condition style R&B). Sunday in the Park, Red Head Stepchild, Milk & Honey, All I Want Is You... all great tracks for a new artist. She wasn't the greatest singer in the world, but she could hold her own... and seemed to have enough stage presence on her own even with Prince as a sideman. It's really a shame that her album got shelved. i kinda agree . but i enjoy some of the talentless bimbos' stuff though. i'm not feeling bria too much and agree that having her disc be apart of "his" album is not too , but . if i don't like her disc, there's at least 2 other of prince's i will wear the fuck out life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me...

I think it's fantastic that Prince has helped so many people come into the music business but he can't carry them forever. Eventually a birds gotta fly or fall. Those that can DO, those that can't, sit on their computer and call them 'talentless hacks', what can YOU do? [Edited 3/21/09 3:57am]

i don't mind that much. i like all the protege albums. they're good to clean
the house to or to listen to when you're mindlessly surfing the web and just need some nice bg music. the chicks are not to blame. prince is. we'll probably never know exactly why he keeps doing this over and over and over again. but no doubt people will be all up in bria's ass once the cd is released on the 24th. complaining about how she can't sing and how the songs suck, lol. damn people what did you expect, he married mayte and even her album's got only 3 good songs. it was released like a side dish. i think he lost all interest in it even quicker than usual. rehashed old tunes and a cover. zzzz. so what makes anyone think he will go out and do better for a piece of ass he's already tapped and doesn't plan on getting hitched to? i wonder why tamar disappeared tho. would it be because she didn't put out or because she wanted to and prince was momentarily stuck so far down the JW pipeline that he sent her packing? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

prince can do what's he wants, there seems to be alot of people that don't have no where near the talent or experience he has, but want to be backseat drivers, and can do NO BETTER than him.
P is still the man! Plus, half of the music industry is filled with talentless hacks, so get over it or make your owm music. It's simple as that.
