Nah, I don't believe these lyrics are about P at all. Maybe a certain world leader? U2 still make great music and are cool to fans: Irish rockers U2 have vowed to lower ticket prices to their shows - to allowed cash-strapped fans to enjoy their music during the global economic crisis.

Unless U2 is jealous of P's lack of anything resembling competent promotion, I don't see why there would be a beef between the two.. • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I've read a couple of books on Bono and U2, and Bono is a huge fan of Prince and talks about him alot.
I think Bono has said that for an artist of Prince's stature Prince's quality control can be a bit off. I think he put this down to being surrounded by yes men with no one man enough to tell Prince an idea's shit. Green virgin teenager, or filthy rich yuppy. Pussy cat pussy cat, where for out thou puppy

When U2 got the grammy for The Joshua Tree (in front of SOTT), I think Prince said something like he could do every song on a U2 album, but they couldn't make one like him.
But they performed 'The Cross' together a little while later so I guess there was no major beef.

Bono is pissed cause he never got his refund for Croke Park last year.

The exact quote by Prince in 1987 after U2 won for Album of the year over SOTT..."I can play any song on the The Joshua Tree but can they play the "Housequake?"...I do think they have talked since then and all is good

I believe in Dubland around 95' Bono sangs as Prince & The NPG keep it going musically. I have the boot of this performance & it's of good quality. Sounds odd 2 hear the musicall arrangement being played so perfectly with someone else's voice actually singing it!

thepope2the9s said: Astasheiks said: When did they perform 'The Cross' together??? I dont think they did They did indeed perform The Cross (which was the first song that night) on a Ultimate Live Experience Tour aftershow at the Pod in Dublin, March 30th 1995. The funny thing was that Bono messed up all the lyrics to the second verse and improvised something completely different. Maybe that's why they started hating each other afterwards.

Making a bigger Bono
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Bono is referring to himself: HE is a small man with big ideas (he's about 5'6). Not Prince small, but small. It's self-referential. I don't think that, with the weight and portent subscribed to U2 album releases, they would feel remotely interested in referencing Prince.

No beef. Bono may indeed be referring to himself. That '95 aftershow at the Pod was my first and blew me away. Also,Bono was backstage at the One Nite Alone gig in Dublin 2002, I saw him looking on from the side. Ahh, sweet memories

Bono also called Chris Martin a Wanker live on Radio, so he's not scared of controversy. The promotion they did the other day blows anything Prince could dream up, performing on Broadcasting house roof was brilliant (UK people can see this using the red button) It was also said that they recorded 60 tracks for this 11 track album, i wonder how many Prince recorded for the 3 he has coming out?
