I also have one with Prince and Ron Wood singing the Stones's "Miss You". Now that's classic.

No beef. Bono may indeed be referring to himself.

2 different people in this world:

1. people that seen u2 live and completely get it.

2. people that haven't seen U2 live and don't completely get it.

Just like Prince, my opinion of U2 shot right thru the roof after seeing the live show.

Bono also called Chris Martin a Wanker live on Radio, so he's not scared of controversy. The promotion they did the other day blows anything Prince could dream up, performing on Broadcasting house roof was brilliant (UK people can see this using the red button) It was also said that they recorded 60 tracks for this 11 track album, i wonder how many Prince recorded for the 3 he has coming out?

C/B

I was listening to radio 1 in the car at that very moment, and Jo Whiley gor her knickers in a twist about it and demanded that he apologise straight away-stupid bint!. Chris Martin is a Wanker. I remember the cross performance, i think i have that kickin about somewhere, will try to look it out now..

I've seen them about 6 times over the years - great in their day but getting progressively worse. And the new album's very disappointing.

You are reading way too much into the quote. Bono said the "small man with big ideas" line is about himself. Bono has always given Prince his props. He gave Prince a compliment at the NAACP awards a couple of years back.

I think Prince was robbed of Best Album in 1987 (SOTT). He lost to U2's Joshua Tree. Prince always maintained that "I can play U2 music, but they can't play my music".

To be fair, 1987 was a big year in music, and that was U2's breakthrough album. Prince owned 1984 with his own breakthrough album, so maybe the Grammy people took that into account.

Side note: I think it's interesting that U2's latest CD has a song called "Breathe" and a song called "Magnificent". Both titles of Prince songs!

The song title is "Stand Up Comedy" U2's atempt at funk.
The lyrics are
"Stand up to rock stars, Napolian is in high heels / Josephine, be carefull of small men with big ideas"

Of course they say they recorded 60 tracks.
They took two years recording this cd - how would it sound if they said they took the first eleven songs they did & didn't bother recording anything else?
The rock press would pound them for taking 2 years to record 11 songs.
Plus if they recorded 60 these 11 must really be good - right?

I think you're blowing this way out of proportion. The song was about people who try to stand taller than they really are (the high heels). It has nothing to do with Prince. As far as I know, Bono and Prince have never met.

In a 2002 Celebration concert, Prince quipped:

"I love you too, but not the band" as in "I love U2, but not the band"
He then told the audience that they missed it, and repeated the line. I think he repeated the joke in London on the Rainbow Children tour, but am not sure.

He repeated the same "Joke" in Dublin, One Nite alone. Hilarious! neutral

Bono is an enormous egotistical self righteous old turd.

Prince also did say about "awards" he said it doesnt matter what i do " i will always lose to u2".

Head to Head its tough with those 2 records, i mean the fact that there is a debate over 2 albums being nominated as being "strong" shit we havent had that in a long while. But it is tough because one being a double record and one not, this was a pinnacle point for u2, they were "coming of age" so to speak, though were well into their careers. So for Prince to say it was a "simplistic" album, he knows he was just crying cause he lost, we all know that, we all do that. But thats far from a "Simplistic" album, shit "Running to Stand still" and "Bullet the Blue Sky" stand up against "the Cross" easily.

Prince's single "Guitar" from Planet Earth is a total ripoff of the U2 sound. How could anyone deny that?

I've read a couple of books on Bono and U2, and Bono is a huge fan of Prince and talks about him alot.

I think Bono has said that for an artist of Prince's stature Prince's quality control can be a bit off. I think he put this down to being surrounded by yes men with no one man enough to tell Prince an idea's shit.

Bono is just jealous because everything he puts out has to be polished and perfect whereas Prince can just go for it!
Shut up already, damn.
