Studio or live?? Hello,
I was just wondering on what you think about this. Do you think Prince sounds better live or on a studio album? - or is it that, he does certain songs better that the studio version? I personnally think he is loads better live than the studio version. I still get the Prince love through a studio version but when i here prince live, the song seems to be more reaching out to you. What you think? Take of your clothes, egh, 319!

I much rather perfer live, I can't stop playing the 21 nights cd but saying that I get just as much enjoyment listening to studio stuff. I don't think a day goes by where I don't listen to something of his! Sometimes Life is like the post...You just don't get it!

It depends on the song really, but overall I prefer the studio version of a song, because of all the little details you can search for, just to hear how much work he put in a certain record.
On the other hand you get to know a wholly different Prince live and you get to see how he really feels about his own music and how he interprets it.

I'm sitting here listening to a studio album right now and I've got plenty of live stuff to listen to. Does this mean I prefer studio work? No but I don't prefer the live stuff either. Both are brilliant in their own way.
Mind you though, if it was the choice between listening to any studio album and actually being at a concert, then I'd take the concert any day. Watching him do his thing in the flesh certainly beats out everything else. RIP

it all depends on the song cause the studio version of days of wild is funky but live it just takes it 2 another level. same with face down.
however lately i prefer studio prince than live prince cause at least the studio version is something new. hearing that song live now a days is almost slim 2 none man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Love 'em both, but live is the shit....because his true personality comes through on his live stuff. You can feel him let go and interact with his fans and the song. He can get more funky, be funny, be sexier (as if he can be any sexier!) whatever.... I just find myself smiling more when I listen to a live Prince song.

I Have no other choice but to love the Studio work really. The 6 Concerts plus the "Musicology," concert at the theatre will always keep me wishing to experience Prince and the band, Live. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

It definitely depends on the song. Off the top of my head, two songs I prefer live are "If I was your girlfriend" and ""he One". However, he's never done "Kiss" any justice live imo.

I'd have to say Live, but only in his presence, because I don't get a kick out of either ONA live or Indigo Nights.
So at home I prefer the Studio Albums. The right to free discussion is protected!!

I'd say 60 percent of Prince music sounds better live, especially these days. It seems like his older work had more cohesion and sounded recorded with a band where as lately some Prince songs sound like recordings. You don't get the full effect or they're not mixed right, I cannot put my finger on it. But I'll say "Fury", "3121", "Musicology" and "Somewhere Here on Earth" sound better live. I could also be that Prince;s heart come thru with the live stuff.
