And as far as his only being human, yes, I understand that.
Of course he's allowed to make mistakes. But we should have to like his mistakes. His treatment of sights like the org and housequake isn't exactly a mistake. They're pretty deliberate acts of douche-baggery though. But bottom line is, I couldn't care less what Prince does in his private life. I really couldn't. All I care about is that he puts out great music, and doesn't act like an ass to his fans (including his fansites). That's not too much to ask for. And Prince can't even do either of these lately Look at it his way. If one of your friends left their house wearing crocs and painters pants, and all you did was lavish them with praise--You're going to have to see them wearing that same awful outfit for the rest of your mortal life. In this situation, the point is mute though, as our 5 "2 diminutive 'friend' thinks his crocs/painter pants ensemble is perfect no matter what feedback he gets. Next week, I'm scared he'll reintroduce Jelly Shoes and stir-ups. Error Message:

Prince has gotten away with his "douche-baggery" behavior for so long he probably doesn't even realize it's "douche-baggery" behavior anymore. Probably, for every one person in his life that has ever called him on it, there have always been a multitude of others, for whatever their motivations, swearing because he's "Prince", it's alright. It's kind of when you think about it. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Why can't you just enjoy his music and if you don't like it then find something else? ... and yeah if you hate the guy then why are you trolling this fan site? One more question... Don't you understand he's only human.. and like the rest of us he will make mistakes? Well, that's not me, I've been accused by a few people to be a so called purple kool-aid drinker but I love going to the concerts and attending parties with other like minded individuals that like P's music also. I have nothing bad to say about the man. He's not my GOD or savior or anything so I don't take it so personally. It's just music, if anything REALLY GOOD music but just leave it at that. It's not like any of us know him personally and we hang out at his house. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

[Edited 2/24/09 9:58am] What attracted to me to prince was his non-crappy music. He always offers surprises, even in the god awful, pointless, vanity-pieces he calls albums now. let's look at it this way. Let's say folks who love coke and drink it everyday, woke up and and were offered 'new coke'. They shouldn't have to like new coke because Coca Cola makes the product. That doesn't make them any lesser as soda fans, does it? They just know that new coke sucks. It's fine that there were folks who loved New Coke. But we're dealing with a scenario where New Coke fans are lambasted for voicing their opinions. And lets say people start a website discussing their coke preferences, and Coca Cola came around and said that you were not allowed to post pictures of the product, nor discuss or speculate on its formula, nor discuss recipes for it, etc. etc. Coca Cola has a right to do this of course, but it doesn't mean their stance would be particularly admirable. Sooooo. Expressing one's dissatisfaction in Prince's music, new or old, doesn't make a person lesser of a fan than somebody who is just fanatical about it all or who chooses not to voice their dissatisfaction. It just doesn't. Coca Cola listened to their consumers, reverted back to Coke Classic, and still enjoy being one of the top selling sodas in the world. There are two kinds of 'haters' here. Those who judge him based on his music and professional behavior (me), and those who ramble on about his personal life (being JW, choice of women, etc.). I don't know much about the stances on the second kind, but for the first kind, I can say we're legitimate fans. We're just not his butt puppets. So again.... His no-crap music is what drew me to Prince. It's obviously good enough to overshadow the pointless, drivel of new material, because it keeps me holding out and being hopeful for the return of non-crap music. Error Message:

If you read some of the threads here you will see it. Some people like Rocknroll stuff, some like RnB, some like both. Prince also puts out a lot more music than other artists do, so it is not like you cannot find something to love. I think if you like just one or two songs per album you have paid for it. Imagine if Prince put out songs everytime that everyone loved... That would be insane. Would he then be worshipped or called the devil? Would he be accused of being commercial? Also he is a musician, he must put out what he feel creative to make. Would you like to create something you don't like? I think he does take into stride what his fan base wants, that is why he is successful. If you make a product without a customer in mind, you would not have a sale. Next point, Do you think he would listen to you if you called him a douchebag or an asshole? Would anyone else listen to you? Do you think he has a right to protect his intellectual property? If your friend invites you to a party and requests you do not take pictures, would you listen? Would you attend and still take pictures or would you choose not to attend? By the way for the NY show 2008 I had a camera in my pocket but I respected his wishes and did not take a picture. [Edited 2/24/09 13:10pm] I completely agree with the fact that he has a huge diverse fanbase. I went to a concert and stood in front of two butch lesbians, to my left were 2 goth girls, and to my right some dude that looked like Grisley Adams. You can't find a more diverse crowd. That being said, why is it so hard for some fans to accept that some of us just thinks his new music sucks? Should we be silent about it? New Power Soul, Musicology, and Planet Earth suck complete and total ass. The diverse fanbase will have those who do not think it sucks, and that's fine. But why should I have to shut up because they love it? We each have our opinions, and suppressing opinions of others is nazi-esch. As far as the picture taking scenario, I'd attend and not take pictures FOR MY FRIENDS PARTY. But #1) Prince is not my friend, and #2) I never advocated taking illegal pictures, and #3) most of the pictures the org had to take down are not owned by Prince. There are going to be folks on both sides of the fence--those who support his actions to control his image. And those who think he's a douche-bag. The beauty of the org is both get to express their opinions. What some seek to do here is shut down all discussion that doesn't conform to their praises. Take your level of admiration for Prince, for example. What if Tame told you that because it wasn't at her level of adoration, that you shouldn't be allowed to voice your opinion? That's the kind of self-righteous shit fans who express their honest opinions about stuff they don't like related to Prince or his music have to put up with. The 'haters' and their opinions are as valid as anyone else's and belong on the org as much as those fans who probably fantasize about boiling prince in a stew, and wearing his skin. Error Message:

[Edited 2/22/09 15:57pm] His body of work is of such high quality that anything less than "deconstructing" his work is a waste of time. I could never understand "mainstream" fans who can say "I like this song" or "I like that song" and just leave it at that. If you're serious about music, or Prince's potential as a musician, you're going to deconstruct it all. This is why bootlegs and unreleased material is so important to appreciating his work. His unreleased work and live shows are what takes him to that "extra" level, a few steps above any other artist. That's why many Prince fans are hardcore and seek more than his commercial/mainstream output. The fans' obsession with his music (unreleased) is probably the biggest compliment from his fans that Prince could ever ask for. He should be happy we want more than Diamonds and Pearls. Other than that, his career is fascinating. "Don't you think one of the charms of marriage is that it makes deception a necessity for both parties?"

Instead he will release a song like "Undisputed" and throw his guitar off the stage after "My Guitar Gently Weeps" instead of embracing his peers who already think he's the best. Really, the only thing left for him to do is to deconstruct himself in his music. He came close with an album like Come, but he won't let himself get raw. His music is always too clean and sugar coated. Prince is a real artist and should release real music.Maybe as great as he is, that's one thing he can't do. That's his flaw. He just can't do it. Prince’s Expectations of Perfection..
1) Prince has high expectations of himself and others. He continues to set a new bar for himself. Now we expect it too. Although truly unfair, we remember the first time we saw the Lovesexy or Sign of the Times tour and thought Oh My Goodness...it’s like musical theater AND a Prince show wrapped up in one. Who could ever top that! Nobody! 2) Fans became accustomed to his need to bring it to a new level.and he delivered each and every time! His expectations became our own, and now, for some, nothing will ever be good enough. 3) Prince, along with every other Musician has a right to profit from their work! If you make widgets, and someone continues to go into your company at night to steal them, how would you feel? It is your work, your passion, and your property. Prince’s stand on the ownership of his own work is not only commendable and right, but it is starting to help other artists as well. If people keep stealing from musicians, we will eventually discourage musicians from even making new music! In other words, what will we have if we starve the musicians! 4) Just like any creative genius, they quickly move from one idea to another, and expect everyone around them to keep up. Prince is no exception, and we have to accept the fact that what he wants accomplished yesterday, (like his website) takes time. His creative team tells him that some interaction is causing things to freeze while his attorney is making sure everything is done legally and correctly by the book. 5) Ultimately, Prince set a standard of perfection and now many fans expect perfection too!- I think they will have to wait ‘till the afterlife! Prince ain't starving anytime soon. I don't think his stand on his copyright is right in this case. It's not like Prince is a mainstream artist and he's losing sales. The people searching out unreleased material and YouTube videos are the ones who already own all of his released material. Prince is not supplying enough of his music to fit the demand, even if the demand is only from a few thousand fans who want more. Since he's not supplying, people look elsewhere. Prince should release more unreleased material and live shows and he'd make a lot more. It's really all his fault in this regard. Side note -- I think all the great songs have already been written, so if musicians don't create any new music, that's fine with me. I feel the same way about the movie "industry" as well. I've seen and heard it all. "Don't you think one of the charms of marriage is that it makes deception a necessity for both parties?"

Maybe to you but not to others.I already said that. The point is my views are just as legitimate since we're talking about something subjective aren't we? Those 3 albums suck complete ass. Others can say different, and that's their right. The diverse fanbase will have those who do not think it sucks, and that's fine. But why should I have to shut up because they love it? We each have our opinions, and suppressing opinions of others is nazi-esch. What is nazi-ish is the taking of innocent lives. No one is asking you to give up your life or forcing you to listen to his music. Give up my life? Forcing me to listen to his music? I don't listen to the albums that suck ass--just the ones I like And I didn't give up anything for Prince. I could barely be bothered to shell out money for his new stuff, let alone spend hours dwelling on it All I'm saying is if I think it sucks, well--I think it sucks. If somebody else doesn't, great. I can't account for their bad taste. But it's all subjective. Since when does not liking his shitty stuff mean that we're fixated on it, or dwell on it? I think folks are reading waaaaayyyyy to much into other people's opinions. As far as the picture taking scenario, I'd attend and not take pictures FOR MY FRIENDS PARTY. But #1) Prince is not my friend, and #2) I never advocated taking illegal pictures, and #3) most of the pictures the org had to take down are not owned by Prince. He owns copy rights to his image. he did not and does not own the copy right to those pictures anymore than he does the masters to the warners material. But even if he did, he's still a douche-bag for the way he behaves with regards to it. It was absolutely hilarous when he tried to tell youtube to take down his performance of the radiohead song last year, only to have radiohead tell youtube that it's THEIR song so put it back up. It's not his legal right that makes him a douche-bag--it's his actions against his fansites. And again, it's ok that you disagree with me--I'm not here to suppress your opinion. I think it's hilarious there are orgers who wish to do that with mine. There are going to be folks on both sides of the fence--those who support his actions to control his image. And those who think he's a douche-bag. The beauty of the org is both get to express their opinions. Agree but this is a fan site not a hate site. So you need to go to a Prince hate site and surround youself with your Prince hating homies. This is hilarious. Who said I hated Prince? Or his music? Agan, just because I think he's a douche-bag in certain of his actions, and much of his new music sucks complete ass, doesn't mean I'm not a fan. I'm just not a drone. It's not us 'haters' that do the org injustice--it's Prince's own actions. PFU had nothing to do with disagreeing fans. And again, why is it so impossible for folks to understand not everyone has the same opinions, especially concerning the music that sucks complete ass? Some folks will love that music. And I don't care if they do. Why should they care that I hate it? What some seek to do here is shut down all discussion that doesn't conform to their praises. I think valid discussions about his work are welcome, no one is saying to simply sing his praises, but we can certainly do without the name calling. Being called a hater because one thinks some of his music sucks complete ass would certainly qualify, no? And being told that they're lesser fans for something that is a matter of subjective opinion is presumptions. This is an open and free site, not a free-for all ass licking site. And folks who are offended by someone else's opinions can chose to ignore or not read them or if they violate org policy, report them. Very few dissenting views of Prince's new and terribly suckass music is actually in violation of org policy though. But the afore mentioned name calling and bullying tactics fans dish out at folks who have differing opinions certain could be. I think both extremes of Prince must see Dr. Phil and enter Prince detox.agreed. But too many folks bent on licking prince's asshole clean think fans who openly criticize one of his works are somehow 'haters'. This is , again, exactly the type of George Bush tactics I'd expect from a raving mad neoccon Republican--not a free and open Prince fansite. The 'haters' and their opinions are as valid as anyone else's and belong on the org as much as those fans who probably fantasize about boiling prince in a stew, and wearing his skin. I think both those types of creatures need get a reality check. LOL [Edited 2/25/09 0:10am] Error Message:

BSOD, I applaud your efforts of explanation. • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.
