why does Prince polarize people so much?

is there another musician who polarizes people as much?
i dont think even M.J does
what about Madonna? i find alot of people dont like her but they still respect her, but alot of ordinary people (not fans or in2 any type of misic in general) just dont like Prince
is that what Prince wants?
or am i totally wrong?

Every artist who generates any level of public interest is going to see the scales tip either way. You can't get people to agree universally on the best albums by The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. Whether people wish Prince could live up to the potential he once showed or believe that he never stopped doing so is all a matter of opinion & we're stuck with what we've got, for better or worse.

And maybe, when he dies, the vaults will open.

Nelson George said of Prince, "he was a cult artist that got popular by accident", and I think that's as good a description as I've heard, and it's still true today.

any artist who dabbles with religious imagery is tapping into the whole mess of emotions that comes along with those symbols. people bring their own baggage and then that gets compounded with whatever the artist actually does.
it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

They looked at his clothes (back then) and his heels and the eyeliner and jus decided that he "doesn't look "manly" enuff, looks too gay, I don't like him"...at least that's wat I get from some ppl.

People can go on aboutMadonna etc but ultimately she is inoffensive-she never really debated sex she just sold it. Everything about Prince goes against people's grain, religion sex and image. And for most people they see him as a Diva. I love it all but until recently Prince has never whored himself and at the end of the day if people are paying they want to be pandered to

I just believe that some people are intimidated by his incredible career and his beautiful voice. Prince is in a Victorious class by himself...I don't want that statement to make Prince feel lonely, Prince is blessed. cool

I believe Prince chases people away on purpose. He doesn't want to get too close to most people and shows them the other side of that Gemini personality of his, he doesn't feel that he needs anybody and has proven that thru out his life. The old "leave them before they leave you" thing. Tame is right, Prince seems like the sweetest thing at times but i'll bet he can scare Satan with just one look.
