Cool with Prince's celebrity exclusive parties?

I was a regular at Paisley Park in the 90's. I was 15 when I 1st started going and it was a dream.

Every weekend I was there ready to make my $7 donation or whatever. It was great, even if the man didn't show and I ended up watching Austin Powers (anyone else remember that?) on a big screen to a DJ spinning grooves, it was cool.

However, as overjoyed as I was to be within' sweating distance of Prince, there was always this nagging feeling under the surface.

There was always a tinge of sadness that Prince was spending most of his time holed up in his Minneapolis Mecca serving the his most hardcore fans his best at 2AM.

I was grateful, but I felt like Prince needed to share his stuff with the rest of the world not just Chanhassen.

Now, I realize that, to some, Prince seems a bit elitist in his Beverly Hills mansion, but I am happy to see that his amazing performances are getting him some exposure more than just a morning after blurb in the Mpls paper. He gave us so much fun at Paisley Park, that I don't begrudge him wanting to change it up and be "famous" for awhile in Hollywood. He deserves to more than just Minneapolis' best local artist ever.

That said, Prince...uh, as soon as you get tired of The Dream Factory..we here in Uptown are waiting for you to come home and play with us again.

i wouldn't mind if he threw parties every day of the week for the likes
of paris hilton and her pooch. as long as we would get an occasional
song to download or a clip of a show on his website.

the way things are now all we read about it how cool things were and
how prince played one amazing, historical gig after another with the
likes of stevie wonder and joni mitchell sitting in with the band as
we are left with a website and 2 pictures of prince and his woman.

it's all a bit twisted. prince can do what he wants and he should, by
all means he should. i just don't like the way these things are being
reported on.

you just know that by next week we'll be reading that paris hilton is
already an exclusive member of the new website with a password and
can listen to the new material and stroll through the website at will.
probably with an added glib that paris said the site was "neat" before
she proceded to crawl down prince's driveway puking and searching for
her panties, lol.

that's the news we get as we wait for a morsel about his new music and
his new website which we assumed would open up in january since, you
know, that's what it said on the site.

i guess we'll have to wait until march before we can hear new music,
by that time all of hollywood's a to f list celebs will have heard them
in stretched out 10 minute live jam fantasmagory and undoubtedly we'll
have read about it every time on dr funkenberry.

but best of all, once his site opens up we'll get to watch him do his
cover of creep at coachella. you know, since radiohead asked him to
pull it back as it's their song. and all of this after that whole damn
youtube controversy. oh my god the hypocracy is sickening lol.

still, i'm straying from the topic. if this is all promotion for his
new website and to get some column space, that's all fine but at the
end of the day: who cares? the people who want to know about his site
already know. the rest don't care.

anyone ever read the commentary beneath these kind of pieces on the
net? lol. you should go there and read what non fans say about prince
and then think about how much goodwill such pieces generate for the
new site.

it gets his name out there, that's all.

but perhaps he knows that and he's just having fun. nothing wrong
with that. if it's only about having fun and playing music he's
perfectly reasonable and by all means he should continue to do it.
he doesn't need to play to his ticket buying audience every damn
show he puts on.

but goddamnit don't flash it in our faces if we're never ever gonna
see or hear your performances with stevie or joni.

although, this isn't really that different from his former quips
about recording with miles davis and a million other people which
were then locked into the vault.

the more you pull at that thread the more the whole fabric becomes
undone in a very nasty way.

and yet, i care and i don't because i still want the new music and i'm
still going to sign up and pay $ 77,- for a shitty flash site with an
ounce of music and a ton of crap. i know this, i have known it and i'm
fine with that. so please don't tell me to go away and stop coming to
this site simply because prince ticks me the fuck off lately.

woot!

I'm so pissed because the fans in Minnesota must have done something shitty for Prince Not to wanna play there in Chanhassen. I also think it SUCKS that he's so much with the CELEBRITIES and all these EXCLUSIVE PARTIES. Not all of his fans Can Afford to fly all over the world to see him nor can they take off work all the time Not Sleep and spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on his shows. It's SUCKY that he has OPEN BARS for CELEBS and Tarts. He doesn't have Bars for his fans nor Treats and when we show UNDYING LOVE he says ...OH, I HATE THEM RUNNING AFTER ME. PLENTY of STARS dig all the GROUPIE LOVE..LOL.. biggrin And I'm Upset with the JWS JUDGING and Making like SEX is WRONG, Being GAY is WRONG, DRINKING IS WRONG and on and on. It's BULLSHIT and PRINCE was NEVER a SAINT! I don't like JWS being so JUDGEMENTAL. That is for GOD ALONE. I MISS PRINCE and I MISS the WAY HE USED TO BE. I Wanna hear his Old Stuff and I Wanna see him Dance More and I wanna See him ACT and I Don't CARE!! This NYer LOVES Him 2 the 9's and I'm kinda Mad at him Treating his Fans like 2nd class CITIZENS in REGARD to these PRIVATE PARTIES. FUCK BOURGEOUS! Go back to the REAL! biggrin Kisses Mon Cherie!

The last time Prince went HOME, the damn police shut him down. I know he said he'd be back but I know he never forgot that shit. He put Minnie on the map, that was a raw deal. Keep hoping tho. confused

Honestly, not being at a Prince party is not cool 2 me.

I realize Prince doesn't wanna flash me around because He's afraid of losing the love of his life and all...but I'm tired of the black ball treatment frankly. cool

lol cry lol

So...what...illiteracy is artistic?

Prince may have developed a different style of writing...but it is one in which he, at least, is capable of writing a complete, coherent sentence.

nice, honest post!

Got me thinking, unlike you, i'm not signing up for the new site for alot of the reasons you described. As long as i can get physical releases and tickets on ticketmaster, i'll be fine. Even if i miss out on NPGMC-style downloads, i'm not too bothered. I can't remember the last time i listened to any of that stuff anyway.

I might change my mind depending on reviews and what is available, but really, i mistrust Prince's websites, i feel i've been bitten once, and i'm not keen on a repeat experience. It's possible that by the time this opens, some folks may have spent $200plus on signing up for P's sites, and unless you got priority tickets or a soundcheck or two, it's debatable whether that was/is good value.
