Would there/Should there ever be a Prince bio-pic Movie?

We might all be dead and buried (or some of us in the Everlasting Now) by the time this happens, but do you think Prince or his estate would ever allow this?

I think even if this was green-lit today it would make an interesting story, i think his life is pretty damn interesting, apart from presumably his family, is there anyone around Prince that has known him his entire life that could pass on info for such a project? i'm not so sure.

I certainly think he'd be deserving of a film based on his life. I wouldn't want one based on tabloid nonsense however.

Do you see this happening in say, the next thirty years?

Well, you might be looking, but what do you really think?

Nothing cryptic is needed on this thread.

First,

We have 'Purple Rain' allready. I know it is semi-autobiographic and dramatised and only deals with a small period of his career, but what could any new movie 'add' when it comes to illustrating that period of his career? Or should such a movie tell the 'real story' behind the glamourized, cartoonesque 'take' shown in Purple Rain?

Second,

A good bio-pic movie, like any other good movie, should have a certain 'dramatic span', a well rounded story with some recognisable, central themes.
The problem is: Princes career and personal life have 'meandered' so much since the release of Purple Rain. Covering his whole career in a biopic of lets say 2 hours would probably make it a very messy, jumpy (sketchy) affair.
So i think you have to focus on a certain timeframe of his career to create a satisfying biopic. But what period should that be?
- Going for his creativity, shying away from stardom in the second half of the eighties (ATWIAD, PARADE, SOTT)?
- The spiritual 'conflict' that lead to the withdrawing of the Black album, the release of Lovesexy and (probably also) the Graffiti Bridge project?
- Him trying to get mainstream appeal again with the NPG and the diamonds and pearls album?
- His fight with WB and his 'independence' as an artist in the mid and late nineties?
- The 'sinking' of his career in the late nineties, combined with events in his personal life (the dead of his child, his divorce from Mayte, the dead of both his parents) that did 'lead him into the arms of the JW-movement'?
- His quasi-comeback in 2004 with the Musicology album, the grammy and RRHOF performances and his big american tour?

To put it short: there has happened SO much in his career, and it has moved in different directions so often, that it would probably be hard for filmmakers to turn his life and career into a satisfying filmscript and movie.

There SHOULD be because he's such a great musician/artist/performer....BUT

There SHOULDN'T be one because....
1. It would most likely end up being a piece of crap
2. It wouldn't do him justice
3. I can't think of anyone who could portray him properly & convincingly...
4. Movies like The Jacksons: An American Dream and the other one about other people you see on TV all the time come to mind.... confused

EDIT: Even though I've seen the Jacksons movie about a hundred times and still like it, I don't think it does anyone any justice AT ALL. All that drama going on.... lol

He just needs to release that early 1990 documentary that Omnibus used in the Prince of Paisley Park. That would be something to behold.

Only if the producers find actors that look JUST LIKE Prince. Otherwise, I'm not interested.

Purple Rain kind of approached that, but there were far, far too many fictional elements for it to actually count as a biopic.

I think it would be great if one were to be done, preferably while the lil guy is still with us to see it. But to tell the truth, I don't think a truly honest picture could ever happen. Prince does not abide by straightforwardness when it comes to himself. And without the reality of the matter, there'd be no point making one.
