Top P Songs 2000 and Beyond Article

http://www.associatedcont...tml?cat=33

So I wrote this article for a website. Not the best decade for P, so far. But there have been plenty of good songs! Thoughts?

I love how his music is so diverse.

There's maybe one song on your list that would have made it into my own top 10. That's not to say you have picked rubbish songs though. Well, maybe Lolita is a bit rubbish. biggrin
RIP sad

1. Call My Name. One of Prince's best ballads ever. This song is proof that Prince still has it. His ability to write such a beautiful song is what places him among the best of all-time. Favorite Lyric: Heard a voice on the news saying people wanna stop the war, if they had a love as sweet as you they'd forget what they were fighting for.

Prince at his best...great track....but SWHOE should get in that list..it's hard because the man does produce some fine music... biggrin cool
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

My own list:

1. 3121 - its weirdness makes it great
2. Planet Earth - if you think it's not as good as his 80s work: listen again!
3. The Rainbow Children - experimental, but still catchy and jazzy
4. Fury - hard hitting rocker (especially the SNL version)
5. Black Sweat - who said Prince couldn't do electrofunk anymore?
5. Love - how a modern R'n'B tune could/should sound like
6. 1+1+1 = 3 - funky as hell (especially on ONA live)
7. The Dance - dark and thoughtful, just incredible
8. Reflection - simply beautiful
9. She Loves Me 4 Me - same as above
10. Musicology - that bassline is killer!

Honorable mention: The Work pt. I, Everlasting Now, Last December, Cinnamon Girl, On The Couch, The Word, SWHOE, Chelsea Rodgers

I do not agree with this person's list at :p

Lolita and Cinnamon Girl? Really?
I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

Its a good article but there are so many better songs, generally Princes millenial output is a great improvement on the 90s material. The 90s had some good moments (eg. Come, Gold, Emancipation, parts of Rave), but was too sketchy. The 2000s were also sketchy until Musicology and since then the quality has been good but not as good as the 1980-88 golden period. Every album from Dirty Mind to Lovesexy seemed to outdo the last, and each record Prince put out just astounded the critics at the mans creativity. Anyway my list of 10 best songs.

1. Black Sweat, by far and away the ctachiest example of Prince's dancefloor bumpngrind sexy, sweaty falsetto style. Funky sexy and cool. (Parade style)
2. Lion of Judah, an incredible powerful rocker in the Style of Sign o the Times, great guitar and emotional gravitas lifts this song to an epic.
3. Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance, Princes most Jiveass song of the millenium (Unfortunately its too modern to compare to an 80s song).
4. Call My name, I agree a sexy ballad with clever lyrics as our friend on this thread describes (Controversy/ATWIAD type feel- Do Me Baby meets the Ladder)
5. 3121, Quirky escoteric and sexy complete with dirty innuendo (Drink champagne from a glass with chocolate handles) - Very 1999 sounding.
6. The Marrying Kind/Man in yo life, groovy driving soulful pop hit that has a real in yo face feel (Very Purple Rainish)
7. SST Great ballad with plaintive humanitarian type lyrics (ATWIAD/Crystal Ball)
8. Musicology, Chunky black style bass great lyrics, good feel, perfect come back song (SOT feel)
9. Love, Sexy ballad feel, good backing vocals by Tamar (Very Take me with u, but Tamar far better backup than apples)
10. The Dance, Plaintive yearning ballad that builds with great scream at end (Mixture of the beautiful ones and Annastesia)
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time
