Funny. I Love Lenny Henry. I believe he spoofed Prince another time also. Is he still on in Britain? He was on here way back. Just like Benny Hill was for years.Love all that. biggrin

What's even funnier is that Lenny Henry actually did vocals on 'Why Should I Love U?' by Kate Bush, which Prince also played on and did vocals on.

So Lenny is actually on a Prince song, lol.

yep i saw this! he's brill & a british institution but
didn't he call prince a penis with a quiff?! eek

i read that he met prince at chaka khan's house (after she'd been on his show) it was when prince was writing 'slave' on his face & he recalled how they talked about funk over a pint & pernod.
i can't imagine prince with the pint somehow..

Below is the Review that Lenny Henry did for the UK Tabloid The Mirror for the 21 Nights concert. In it he recalls the meeting they had.

Lenny Reviews Prince.

When comedian Lenny Henry heard a whisper that Prince was playing 21 nights at London's Dome, he thought it was a wind-up.

But when he realised his Purple Highness really was taking up an unprecedented residency at the new O2 Arena, he rushed to get a ticket.

On Wednesday, Lenny - a Prince fan for 25 years - saw his hero's opening night with 20,000 others. So tell us, Len, did it live up to expectations?

'it was a big night for me. I have loved Prince ever since I heard Soft And Wet at a disco in the early 80s and saw his Afro, which took up the whole of the album cover - my own hair refused to grow to that length.

The O2 venue is huge, like being in an enormous airport without the pay-off of the intercontinental flight at the end - although Prince came pretty close to providing the bang for buck we all wanted.

This was a mammoth gig in every sense of the word. Although I'd have slapped the sound guys around during the first half. For such a gigantic venue, the sound was under-powered, to say the least.

Still, such quibbles aside, this was Prince at his coiffed, sexy, funky best. And his band, featuring Maceo Parker of James Brown fame and Blaxploitation-style backing singers, were slamming.

The stage was shaped like the symbol Prince used to signify his identity in the 90s when he was in conflict with his record company.

Back then he would tease his audiences by not singing any of his hits - choosing instead to jam on the groove for 10 minutes at a time. Thankfully, he's in no mood for games tonight and gives us as many hits as possible... but not all of them.

Although there were some glaring omissions (more of which later) the set-list was prodigious by anyone's standards.

He opened with a superb Purple Rain, and followed it with a tight-as-a-duck's-rear-end Girls And Boys, which morphed into Dance/Music/ Sex/Romance.

It was at this point that we had a few sound issues - the band weren't clear enough or loud enough. Then after a long ballad break the whole place kicked off when he lurched into a blistering version of Musicology.

Prince rocked us, shocked us and cold-cocked us. I actually met him once - at Chaka Khan's birthday party in London. She had just been on my TV show and invited me to her do. It was at the time when Prince had "Slave" mysteriously written in big letters on the side of his face in felt-tip.

Downstairs, divas were cater-wauling like demons on heat. Upstairs, Prince and I were talking about the funk over a pint and a Pernod. Guess who drank what!?

He was a very intelligent man and had so much energy. Still has.

Last night, he just couldn't, wouldn't, didn't stop. The funk was sinewy, electric and mighty fine. He danced, wailed, screamed, got the crowd to soul handclap and worked the angles like a pro.

Sitting in an upstairs suite at the O2 was nice but I found myself envying the real Crystal Ballers down below. Those sitting so near the stage they were getting vertigo looking up at him.

They were dancing, prancing, giving it major rock.

Ok, Prince included a few fillers - stuff only hardcore fans would recognise but which would leave most people thinking, "What's going on?"

And the covers Come Together, Crazy and It's A Wonderful World were fine - but I'd much rather have a Prince tune.

There was no Sign O' The Times, no Mountains, no Gonna Be A Beautiful Night, no Pop Life, no Thieves In The Temple... In some ways this concert could be distinguished more by what the funkateer didn't play than by what he did. But I don't mean to moan.

There was a key moment when I thought he'd finished. So did a lot of the crowd who headed home.

And then came a genuine "Wow" moment when Prince came back into the auditorium surrounded by bodyguards, walked through the crowd to tumultuous cheers, and snuck under the stage.

He came back on with just a guitar and entertained those remaining with Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret and Love Bizarre mixed with Le Freak.

It was a truly great show and those last 20 minutes more than made up for any sound glitch or the non-appearance of a few hits.

His name is Prince and he is Funky.

Damn, I'm so jealous.'

I'm still gutted about missing that final encore. I did get a pay off at my next show on the 7th, when he started with just him and his guitar. But still... lol
