That little jazz breakdown sent me into hyperbole about the album the first time I heard it--I had gotten the disc at the movie screening and stayed up late to write a really fammed out review. Though my love for the album has dimmed (just a little), that song still gets me every time.

I get what yer saying (I think), but you might using hyperbole wrong.

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

hyperbole="extravagant exaggeration"
it works, I'm just sayin' smile

You said it sounds 90s.

That infers it's drawing from a sound during an era that was prevalent.

So I'm asking you to please show me a song that sounds like these songs. Particularly from other artists, as that would be what is necessary to create a sound from which this could be compared to.

I know it doesn't sound *anything* like 90s rock & roll, so I look to 90s R&B/Hip-hop, and I'm sort of at a loss there too.

Does it sound like H-Town? No. Blackstreet? No. Montell Jordan? Nope. TLC? Boyz II Men? Aaliyah? Usher? No. So what exactly are you comparing these songs to in order to draw your conclusion? Or are you just trying to be provocative? That's my guess.

It is pure hyperbole without any basis in reality. To say something is dated is dismissive without telling u anything at all about the quality of the music. Even if a song recalled some past time period so what. I don't see how that has any bearing on your enjoying or not enjoying a song. Some folks here are super-critical of prince as a means to booster their own egos.

I totally agree tricky... I'm glad that 99.9% of the people on this thread like this song. I totally love the whole cd. Great thread great song wink

The biggest problem with this song in my opinion is it's clearly just him in the studio. If he were jammin' out with the band, I think this thing would be far more energetic and exciting.

this song was recorded with the band.
