I like it a lot, but its lyrics really are a bit overbearing at times. It's okay when he's talking about loving God, but when he specifies certain archaic JW beliefs like the theocratic order, it becomes tough to enjoy the song anymore.

Simple suggestion ....do not try to enjoy it just pass on it.

I'm also still a bit uneasy with the nearly anti-semitic tone of Muse and Family Name.

How can it have a "nearly anti-semitic tone" either it does or it does not.

It's so funny though. Anyone who's been on the org for a while knows that the easiest way to start a hot thread is to start a debate about TRC. It'll always be Prince's most polarizing album.

The thing is that I'm not sure if Prince is merely being insensitive to the past plight of the Jews, or outright hostile.

just a question..i do not know ur religious beliefs at all, or ur true outlook on the world as a whole, but do u feel that if u took a listen 2 the songs without ur belief system or even with ur system intact, that the lyrics really have that much effect on u enjoying the music?

Well, for what it's worth, I'm a combination of almost all religions based on what I like from each of them. Most of TRC's lyrical content doesn't bother me, but when you hear stuff about a woman being assimilated and a theocratic order in the 21st century, I have to hit the skip button.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I'm glad it resonates with so many people. Gives me a broader understanding of it, and while it's not ever going to be one of my favorites, I can appreciate it. Especially the innovation and the musicality.

And Last December *is* a great song. So is 1+1+1=3.

This album is just short of genius or greatness for me. 1+1=1 sounds too much like erotic city. Too much James Brown schmaltz on "The Work Pt 1" Still a very strong album though. Flawed like most of his though it is.
