Do you think Prince would play @ the inaugural ceremony ?

What do you think he would sing/play ?

I think definitely not, but who knows.

If it ever did happen, he adapts to his surroundings and chooses songs accordingly. I can see him playing America, Little Red Corvette for the mainstream, and follow it up with a couple of songs from his latest album just to get some exposure in, like any good business man.

I doubt it. Because of his religious beliefs I don't think he'd get involved in political situations or celebrations.

Oh unless the $$$$ gets him smile

I bet that his religious beliefs should have kept him from playing at the Super Bowl on a Sunday.

Love or $$$$$?
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I was just about to say that. Plus, he publicly said that he didn't vote for Obama. It would look strange to see someone perform for a politican like Obama when you know what his religious leanings are. Like luv4u said, $$$$ might talk IF this happens. Jan 20th will tell the story.

Being a political function, I'd say no. But our Princey has never been a man to turn down the right paycheque, so who knows?

Does the inauguration pay? I thought people did that for the honor of playing before the president.

Not to mention that, if your president requests you to do something, you do it or you have a damn good reason not to. Not voting for the guy isn't a reason not to play if asked.

So yeah, I think he would play if asked.

I'm pretty sure a performer doesn't have to play.

Who said he would have to? I wasn't saying he'd be jailed if he refused. I do think he should feel obliged if asked, but no one's going to hold a gun to his head.

I admit that I am not a religious man, but last time I checked many religious groups still believed that Sundays should be a day of rest. Do the JWs recognize Saturday as the Sabbath? I know that other offshoots of the Millerites, such as the Seventh Day Adventists view Saturday with a particular significance.

Oh, please. So you're saying that if George W. Bush had asked the Dixie Chicks to play at the White House, they should/would have?

Bull.Shit.

I'd hope he would do it. This will be the most symbolically important one since Washington's in my opinion.

Of course, Prince would show up late, deny camera crews access, and make Obama stand out in the cold before entering the venue.

And you KNOW Michelle won't put up with that bullshit:

Of course he would. He would play a version of "America the Beautiful" that the world has NEVER heard. It would blow people's MIND and the guitar work might end the ceremony.

Hell, yeah, I do. Why not? What's so hard to understand? I think if your president asks you to perform for him, you should be honored.

Don't get me wrong - I agree with you. But you have an awful lot of puffed-up, pissy artists these days. If they won't even let someone whose political views they disagree with play their song at a rally, what makes you think they'll do a command performance? rolleyes

I don't think that corrolates with this hypothetical situation, since Prince doesn't really agree or disagree with Obama, or at least has not presented an official opinion either way, that I know of. Plus, it's not a case of being asked to lend support to someone you fundamentally disagree with. And he wouldn't be helping him get elected in any event; he'd be helping his country celebrate an official occasion, an important distinction. I don't think he has any religious reason not to participate at that point either.

The whole issue is moot, of course, but in those circumstances, I think most Americans, even in this day and age, would respect the office enough to do it, Prince included.

I think he would play for the right amount of $$$ nod and he would play the most of familiar of songs e.g. purple rain, lets go crazy, maybe crimson n clover and TMBGITW for michelle and the daughters. but really...i can't even see Obama requesting Prince to play. this is Stevie's gig all the way and maybe some Bruce and some gospel artist like the Wynans. Obama about keeping every 1 on the same page - keeping it mainstream. grouphug
