I really didn't have a choice until I was born in 1985. By that time, Around the World in A Day was out. Assuming my 'rents were lovers of Prince before my conception, I'd sort of have to say yes. Half and half. The one half with mommy and the one half with daddy.
Ok that's kinda sick. But true.

How many of you were prince fans Before Purple Rain? I am a True Original Prince fan before Purple rain and i know there are alot of purple rain babies here. I was a fan LOOONG before Purple Rain. I was a fan from the very first time I heard "Soft and Wet"--which was shortly after it's release to radio in '78.

muleFunk said: And to those who are too young to remember Prince was a huge star in the Black community when the Dirty Mind album came out and really took off with the crossover when 1999 came out. My uncle who was the pimpmaster had the Dirty Mind 8 track jamming to Head all of the time.
The "Dirty Mind" album was the soundtrack to my college years. The DJ would put that on and just turn the party OUT.

i've been watching old concerts pre PR & big audiences & plenty support. i really envy that crowd, must have been so exciting
did anyone think he'd be the superstar he is 2day, 30yrs done the line? i mean yes he was clearly talented, but 2 see him then & think what he's achieved is mindblowing

I was pretty much born into loving Prince. As soon as I started to learn to talk (we'll say about 1983) I was singing along with my mommy to them sexy man's songs.
The rest is history. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

It started with Delirious. I heard that tune. I thought it was very original. Then I found an import of 1999 in Paris after chasing this cd in nearly every store there (nobody knew Prince there back then) and it just killed me.
I will always remember when 1999 kicked off. Woaw ! That was it.

I remember Controversy and even IWBYL on the radio, but I was too young to get into it. 1999 made me a fan (especially sharing secret listens to LPWM) but it's true that PR tipped it over... "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

I liked Prince songs here and there before PR, but I couldn't say I was a fan of his. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Started with Dirty Mind. The followup 1-2 punch of Controversy and 1999 sealed the deal. • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I remember liking "When You Were Mine." Nothing before that & surprising, since there's no way I'd have heard the rest of that album.
