Lisa Coleman Interview http://blogs.tampabay.com...-regr.html
Wow I really didn't realized that Lisa is so candid and talkative. She must drink the Wendy kool aid that day. But this is to the Lisa fans who would like to see her having her own interview so we can knnow more about her thoughts. Enjoy this interview and shame on Eric Deggans for just now publishing this interview of Ms. Coleman. Thanks to Renata, Lisa's lovely wife for mention this interview on her twitter.

I hope everyone enjoying reading this interview. The article is a real treat to us Lisa (and W&L) fans, and Lisa haven't done a solo interview in nearly 20 years from my memory. I like it how Lisa quipped about her and Wendy being black chicks. Yep that is my light skinned sista there having a good time and sense of humor with the interview.
I didn't know that was Lisa scoring toward the end of PR movie I think the scene when Prince and Appollonia reunite toward the end before he got on stage singing Die 4 U and Baby Im a Star I think that she was referring to. I know Lisa said awhile ago she did some string and scoring work on PR and Under The Cherry Moon but didn't receive the proper credit of her work but was billing as part of Revolution in UTCM, and overall she seem like she is very happy with her film scoring career I always got the impression that Lisa enjoys more of being a composer than being onstage performer. Meanwhile, Wendy has the charmisa, and extrovert, and outgoing so no suprised that she wanted to tour more often than Lisa. And finally she describes about her love and hate relationship with Prince, and yeah they do have a strange relationship but it is amazing that W&L still putting up with Prince after the way he had treated them (I would kicked P out of my life long time ago like his other protegees). The girls surely got some tough skin and they are from LA and all and so they have to. I wished the interviewer asked Lisa if they are open to do some other scoring work like in video games, documentaries, and etc. i was thinking about asking Wendy and Lisa on twitter about that if they ever want to consider togetting into scoring video games and I know Lisa used to love play video games just only a few years ago. .

[Edited 12/31/08 18:37pm] Wendy kinda during their Rockgrl interview in 2000 and the only issue that I bought from that company. But it was a brief mention. I think they broke up around 2000 but started dating around 1980 or 1981. I am not sure how long Lisa and Renata been together but I know they got married back in October. Yeah me too very amazing that they are still friends and very close. that is what important friendship 4 life. I am very impressed how Lisa was being classy about P not attending the Family Jamm in the interview. I know some of the other Revolution members and his other protegees who attended were disappointed he didnt show up but Lisa really understood P and somehhow what to expect from him, and didn't took it personal of his absence. I am glad she have a good time with the reunion and did it for a good cause. I was mourning for her when she briefly her late younger brother and you can tell that there is some lot of pain and grievence moments during the interview. David meant a lot to her and that was her youngest and only brother and she always treasure his artwork and David was smart cat and his skills are underrated. I admired his string work on ATWIAD and Purple Rain, and he was a fantastic art designer. It it is sad that he is not here with us he to continue expand his creation horizons. IT also ashame that he never had a chance to get to know his youngest niece either. Cant believed it is going to be five years since his death this coming March. [Edited 12/31/08 19:15pm]

Great interview! I always feel like all the people from that time in Prince's career never really give us the truth. I always felt like W&L were the most honest about everything, so It's really cool 2 get their perspective. Very nice interview. I wish we could hear the rest of the crazy Prince story she was about to tell, though! Oh, well. Still a good read. Thanks for posting.

I didn't know that Lisa's brother David had died. That's so sad. What happened, how old was he? Is it true that Wendy's brother Jonathan died of a heroin overdose?

I heard he died of an enlarged heart and he was only 41 I believed. I am not sure was David married and left behind any kids have but I know Jonathan did have one kid who was a baby when Wendy's bro died and that boy is now like 12 or 13. Yes Jonathan have died of drug overdose. I remember when MTV reported the news and shown footage of the coronor carried Jonathan from his NYC apartment and I didn't made the Melvoin connect until I got internet access until the fall of '96 and found out the keyboardist guy from Smashing Pumpkins happened to be the Wendy's brother. Interesting that P still sends them music. I'll bet they still provide something even if they don't get credit for it...like The Dance on 3121. I swear to the Purple Bible of Holy Jahovah he screams "That's Lisa!" Christian Zombie Vampires

I think someone has already mentioned it but, I think I am even MORE of a fan of their's after reading this interview. I would love to have like a late night coffee with them.
Thanks for publishing this. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

L: Isn’t it great when they do that? That happened to us a lot of times. Almost every record that Wendy and I made, like the president would sign us and then the company would completely change hands, and the new guys would come in and go, whoa, who are these girls? What do we do with them? I don’t understand.
It is indeed the sad thing about record companies that are run by businessmen. Wendy and Lisa and others like them are so obvious to "music listeners", but to "music consumers", anything not in a nice, nifty little box is enigma to record company execs. Wendy and Lisa could have been just as big as Jam and Lewis if they were handled by people who could see them as the diamonds they are. But time is telling a different story - they are renowned in probably the only way possible.

I always enjoy reading interviews from ex-Prince band members, especially this one with Lisa, who seems very cool. But I'm really tired of non-black people obsessing with the joke: "I must be black because ... I can play funk, blues, R&B, gospel music, etc.," or "I can act cool" a la Bill Clinton so I am black.'' (No, he was NOT the first black president) LOL.
There's a LOT more to it than that, of course. Don't get me wrong, I have a healthy sense of humor when it comes to all people, including my own. But -- and I don't believe sweet Lisa meant to be offensive or insensitive -- it is nevertheless tiresome and insulting. Otherwise, I really did enjoy the read.

Just one last thing before the dogs of "too much time on my hands" come to bite at my heels - this interview sounds more like Lisa talking about her oldest friend. It's cool for just that reason - only those closest to Prince really know what life with him is like. Sure, they've had beef - that's obvious in Lisa's thoughts, and what real friends do is bury the hatchet when need be and don't hold grudges.
