Okay...some might call that being a sycophant though No, being a Prince fan doesn't make you a sycophant. BeLIEving that Prince pisses excellence in everything he does makes you a sycophant. Oh, and I've been down ever since I heard "Computer Blue".

I really salute the people who have been fans for over 25 years. Thats incredible to see that type of devotion. To me thats a real fan, followinga person before they were a megastar and staying with them thru thick and thin. As far as I am concerned, these people should get a thank u letter from Prince along the lines off.
Hey U Thanks 4 the love the support the devotion may u live 2 c the dawn Love God PS find enclosed a set of concert tickets for my next show near u (They re VIPS u can come backstage and let me shake yo hand) So what are u going 2 do? I've been a real fan since 1989, when Batman came out. As a MJ-fan, I had a REALLY hard time admitting to my elder brother that the song 'The Future' (which he played loud in the living room, on cassette, the minute he had bought it) kicked MJ's ass. Soon after, I was sold.
I did enjoy Parade before that (had gotten it on tape from my uncle), but was too much into MJ to truly appreciate Prince. So, 1989 was the turning point for me, more specifically the songs The Future, Electric Chair, Vicki Waiting and Lemon Crush. 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

Since 1982, when I first heard the '1999' album... I was a kid. I already listened 2 Stevie Wonder, Hendrix, Santana, Sly, JB, Parliament, various jazz, west african, etc... Some rock, of course.
That album FLOORED me. When I read the credits, and discovered it was essentially all him, I became driven as a DIYer. I had already respected other notable DYIers, like Stevie Wonder and Peter Gabriel, but this was another story. At that time I played Guitar, Bass, and Percussion... dabbled with some drum machines, and played some keys. Prince showed me what drive could do when added 2 talent. I went backwards from that album, and got everything up until it. Then, I got every release since then. I would try not 2 look 2 anxious, when walking fast home from the record store, dying 2 hear what the latest thing was. So yeah, I came in right before the whole 'Purple Rain' phenomena... Had 2 endure the whole 'Diamonds & Pearls' thing in '91, when many young folks were turned on 2 Prince because of it. I desperately wanted them 2 know what came before it. Funny that it was similar 2 the 'Purple Rain' experience, in that way. [Edited 12/29/08 6:59am] "He's a musician's musician..."

I became involved in Prince' music about the time I was turning 9 years old 1979. My older sister had a poster of prince on our bedroom door, prince had on his purple shiny trench coat black shirt and red pants. too sexy.I now own one of these awsome trench coats, too happy. but thats another story, I had taken my fathers portable 8-track player I listened to prince all the time. since then. never really listed to anyone else other than shelia E. Morris Day.I was hooked, My father asked me at one point in time around 1984 or so and asked what color Prince was because he stated that if he was black that I would not be able to listen to his music or have any of his posters. I simply said no Prince in not black he is Porta rican. my father said thats fine.I was relived. Prince"s music got me thought alot of hard times with his fantanitc music. I hope he playes and puts out music thoughtout his golden years. Keep rocking Prince.

July 1984. I can still remember sitting in the front row with my mom, her friend and daughter watch Purple Rain. We just loved it....we went back in to watch again.
I can remember playing with a toy (guy on a motorcycle) and my mom telling her friend who was at the house "He has been playing with that toy since we saw the movie". I also remember going to a music store every few weeks to see if there was a new Prince cassette....man the good ol' days.... I am 30 now..... Prime aka The Kid
