Oscar Wilde (thanks Prince) so in the case of this song that would make Jimi the genius and Prince the fool? lions tigers and bears oh my ..

Tommy and the Shondells' recording of "Crimson and Clover" (written 1969) is so beautiful. I can see Prince totally enjoying the song with all it's vocal harmonies and sound effects. Also, "Wild Thing" (written 1966) by the Troggs is timeless. It was sexy and bold and was far ahead of it's time lyric wise. Prince's cover of "Crimson and Clover" is awesomely done. It is proving to be a catalyst for comments and conversation. Also for many, it's a jumpstart to take a look back on our music history. After all Prince is one of the great musicologist of our time. famous quote: Any fool can make history, but it takes a genius to write it. I like all of the new songs, but I have to say IMO the best remake of Crimson was the Joan Jett version. Our friend's version is great mind you, but I think Ms. Jett got the upper hand on that one.

I just find this song amazing and so beautiful!!! So much talent, no one else like U Prince!

I just heard it for the first time -- what a load of shite. I liked it marginally better than 'Everyday Is a Winding Road', but not by much

Is there anywhere I can still hear Crimson and clover?

oh, this is lovely.
so glad he's finally decided to get his guitar out and actually use it on a record. you know, turned up in the mix so you can actually hear it.

When i heard the 'wild thing' part i thought, 'why couldn't you (Prince) have written a part just as effective as that?'. It sounds just like a cheap way of gaining attention.
It is a pretty simple riff (with a nice call and response vocal). Something similar that he has (and many other musicians) probably come up with in jam sessions. The trick is to recognize when you have something distinct, which i thought that Prince had the ability of and would be more proud of writing.

I think it is lame and lazy and I'd be embarrassed to put it out for release. What is the damn point of it??
I almost wish Prince would just hang it all up already - if this is what he's come to. He needs a serious reinvention in ways his ego will never allow.

I can now say I am fully in love with this song.
I find myself visiting lotusflow3r.com just to hear the opening bars at least once a day. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

i have to agree, though i feel a bit spoiled rotten by the choices. Yes Joan still owns this song but I'll admit P's version has grown on me a bit. But why did he omit the best lyric "I want to do everything" (which for years I thought she said "Wanna do have a real thing" LOL)

I will be surprized if it is not a hit... his guitar is stellar... Vocals are purrrfect. Prince great job! Not better than the original . . . I really don't like the effects on Prince's voice. He didn't need to do that to cover it. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Exactly why he picked it! He has always picked somewhat obscure songs to cover. This is IMO his best cover ever! Great 'Jimi like' effects on his voice and guitar. Does anyone know who mixed down these tracks for P cause whoever did gets an A+ It was a #1 Pop Single in 1969 Joan Jett took it to #7 in 1981 Not too obscure . . . I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Similar vocal effects to the original. That's why I still prefer the original. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

If he would have mashed up Crimson & Clover and Sweet Jane then I would have been a bit more impressed since I cant see Prince getting down with the VU. That would have impressed me for the same reason. Not that I get down with VU but 'Sweet Jane' and 'Walk On the Wild Side' is my dose of Lou Reed. (Didn't he write 'Sweet Jane'?) I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Actually, working "Crimson" and "Wild Thing" together is a great idea, a highlight to his C&C version. He gets in and gets out with it - doesn't overwork it.
It seems so obvious these two songs go together now, like why hasn't anyone done this before? Maybe I missed it. Anyway, I wasn't thrilled at the idea of another cover, but this song has really grown on me. I like it. Dam that Prince!!! Done it again! lol

There are a gazillion songs that you could transpose to the same key and have fit in there OK, but I don't really get why he choses this one--doesn't really add anything conceptually.
