I agree only partly.

It's because sometimes I feel like people either don't listen to his latest three albums properly before they judge them, because they were not released in the 80s, or they even judge them just because they weren't released alongside SOTT.

Tastes differ, of course. But every person who understands music and knows something about playing instruments, writing songs, arranging and producing them, will tell you that Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth is some good work.

The One U Wanna C, for example, may be too "easy" to stand out as a Prince classic, but still the album as a whole is better than what I've heard from other musicians nowadays.

It is stupid to say "Prince can do no wrong, everything he does is holy and perfect", but It's just as stupid to say "His last three albums sucked major ass." without having a proper reason.

So from the two publicized reports of hearing new music from Prince, one said " funk-pop-psychedelic", and the other said "all out Rock"... This time around, it is being said that it is all out Funk.

As I keep on saying, it is always a matter of what Prince decides 2 release. U can bet he has more than one albums' worth of material... I know he does. What gets released is what remains a mystery.

Personally, I'd like it all... psychedelic Funk, Rock, juicy Minneapolis Funk... Prince DOES have many musical sides and expressions, and I understand and appreciate them all, being a musician with diverse, eclectic tastes.

We all just gotta wait, as usual.

It's always darkest before the Dawn, after all.

u Know when JBlackwell said that the new album/music from Prince is "Controversy-The Saga Continues....because you hear the flavor of that time in the music. Every track is nonstop funk in yo face!!!!! 3-D Style ".....he means that even when Prince makes Rock song or POP song HE IS ALWAYS FUNKY.....do u think that songs like >Private joy>Ronnie talk to russia or Annie christian are funky ...yes they are or could be too ROCK...POP..ELECTRO.....this is something else...no one song from Prince can be categorized ...Prince makes music like no-one can't!!

I DREAM TO HEAR PRINCE MAKING songs AGAIN like ANNIE CHRISTIAN....because the Funk a la MUSICOLGY...ENOUGH is ENOUGH 4 me!

Ps>I hope that "Turn me loose" will not be on the new album...because this song is Shit....the weakest song from Controversy is 1000 better than this one!

Just to add on to this, I think that it's unfair to judge music that you haven't even heard yet. I see people here setting themselves up for disappointment and anger because they expect this album to suck and then when it is release, they'll be back here bitching and moaning saying "See I told you it would suck" and more of the same bullshit that's been going around will continue. Let the album come out and give it a chance. It shouldn't be a hard thing to do.

Exactly. Actually I find myself being influenced by reading all these negative comments about his latest music or it rather makes it more difficult for me to listen to it without expecting something bad, which makes it harder to really enjoy it.

I tend to go out and buy the album, listen to it as much as I can until I have a proper opinion and proper reasons and then come back here to have a look at what others say about it/to share my opinion.

It's a vicious circle, people read and repeat, others read and repeat again and the outcome is the odd "His last three albums sucked! And the next one is going to be just as bad or even worse, trust me, I know it!"

my advice 2 u is form ur OWN opinion and enjoy the music 4 urself and even if negative reports come through, u enjoy what u enjoy and leave it at that.

Me either, there are so many rumors going around this forum that you really don't know what to believe. Just because he has new music doesn't mean he's going to release it. He's writing new music all the time.

I hope it's true though.

Everything you said is the truth. In the last couple of months, I've met a few people who are Prince fans and I've made it a point to tell them to NOT come to prince.org or HQ for that matter because of your first paragraph Dave. The same thing was happening to me when I first joined p.org in 99 but after a while I realized that I was big fan before the internet and I'm still a big fan with it. Plus I have to judge the music for myself not for what others here say, especially when you have people who haven't liked anything new in over 10 years. I am my own man with his music but the comments in the last year have been outrageous. I'm not trying to kiss Prince's ass but DAMN. And like I said before, there will be people here saying the music sucks or it's going to be Planet Earth 2 having never heard even one note from one song on the CD. I'm almost scared to see what will happen here when we get the official word on the new CD whenever it comes out.

"Cam...who cares what other people say? When you go to the store or do a purchase download you don't come to this site to ask anyone if you should purchase new music from any artist or not. Go with your own instincts and what you like. You cannot stop criticism of an artist or his music. People will always criticize and will never like everything an artist puts out. There may be a few songs on a CD you may not like and some you love, and we know that's just the way it is, but if it's your choice to purchase music from an artist you enjoy, go for it. Once you hear the tracks, it will be up to you which tracks are your favorites.

All artists take risks when putting out new music and most are fully aware that not all their fans or lovers of their music, will like every song they put out. If artists were afraid to take risks and put their music out in fear of criticism, then we'd get no music from them at all. So forget what others will think about it and if you feel you want to purchase it and check it out for yourself, despite what others think, then feel free to do so.

That's funny... I usually tell folks 2 stay away, as well, although Housequake isn't nearly as negative as the Org. Just sayin'. I spend much more time here, regardless.

So who says it will be a CD?

; )

We'll have to stay tuned for that one. nod
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
