John is definitely recording with Prince again, as confirmed by this article from yesterday's Columbia, SC newspaper, "The State" --

DRUM MAESTRO:John Blackwell is a drummer who can’t be ignored. His acrobatic playing is dynamic and visually stimulating. Blackwell, a Keenan High School graduate who tours with Prince, among others, will host a drum clinic Sunday at Patriot Hall Performing Arts Center in Sumter.

I talked to Blackwell on Saturday afternoon, shortly after he got off a plane in L.A. He was on his way to record with Prince, but he wouldn’t — read: couldn’t — divulge any information.

“I don’t know, but I can’t talk about it even if I did,” he said. “I’d have to ask permission. When you work with Prince, the name of the game is keep your mouth shut.”

Blackwell, who also has played with Cameo, Patti LaBelle and Justin Timberlake, will also discuss his career during the clinic. He would like to see more drummers come out of the state.

“It’s a matter of them having a positive attitude and the motivation,” he said.
The best part of the two-hour drum clinic: It’s free.

“He’s really making himself available to the community,” said Booth Chilcutt, executive director of Sumter County Cultural Commission, which is hosting the clinic. “We’re really impressed that he wants to do that.”

Besides jamming with Prince, Blackwell is working on a jazz CD.

“I always played for different artists,” he said. “At the same time, I want to have my own band.”
The center is 135 Haynsworth St., Sumter. (803) 436-2260

4 me the thing that is goin 2 b almost as interesting as the new music, is HOW P is goin 2 'release' it !?
hasn't he said that no artist can make money from commercialy releasing cd's? and that the internet is a black hole ?
mayb a co-ordinated worldwide sunday newspaper give-away ? he got a million dollars from the the mail on sunday 4 planet earth, who i would imagine would b on the phone 2 him for a start, as even tho' they release a cd free nearly evry weekend they get NOWHERE near the sales figures they got with Planet Earth.
a million dollars from the uk, france, germany, holland, 2 million from japan and the usa, etc, etc. that buys a lot of ear bling and sparkly canes people !!
(of course if he would rather distribute the music free with concert tickets, then that would b fine with me, another 21 nights ? HELL YES !)

Wow, more Prince hyperbole about future music. As if every pending release and possible release over the last umpteen years hasn't been heralded as a soon to be masterpiece. Unfortunately once it's released, it's a cd filled with retreads and religious zealotry.

Someone nailed it earlier: get ready for tired 80's synths with naive Ronnie Talk To Russia politics.
No hard feelings.

Threads like this deserve rationalism. This latest blog that's 'breaking' Prince news is on par with those atrocious posts that were on 3121. I'm guessing the same sychophant is writing it.

I love how Prince's music was once so innovative but now he's finally come to realize the only thing he has left to offer is retreads of sounds he did OVER twenty years ago. Of course, wasn't even Rave supposed to be a return to that sound? Hilarious.

Controversy Part II. Great Prince, IF this was 1982 and not 2009. When all else fails, just mention the word Linn and watch the fams drool.
No hard feelings.

Prince has consistently delivered new music on a fairly regular basis. Why are we doubting him now?
