He must be making a fair bit from his back catalogue, which combined must be selling in the millions per year? Also, royalties from other artists, cover versions, etc, would add up to something significant.

Well, I've made a decision today as well. I have yet to receive a single thing for my $100 this year. Do I care? Yes and no. When I receive the package I'll be content, and if there are any follow-ups then I'll be happy. I've got better things to worry about.

So my optimistic decision is to renew next year. And if he puts on another celebration I'm going to do my best to get there (currently in Singapore). It's a long way to go, but I've only seen the guy play once (Melbourne 16th April 1992) and I'm sure I'll love a whole week. Plus, of course, it will give me a chance to make my first trip to the US.

I could never sell my whole P collection on a whim. It took me so long to find some of those things, and the music still sounds as good as always smile

The real problem is promoters. They are good at convincing artists of big profits, just to line their own pockets. Because remember the utmost fact about Prince: He is eternally naive about buisiness matters. And let us be blunt: Concert tickets are not cheap--no ones ticket. I mean, sure, an anarchist band like Fugazi charges 7 dollars a gig and 10 bucks a cd, and make great money, but we all know Prince is far from a leftist radical. His Capitalistic bent really bothers me. He is tainted like many black artists--not saying only black artists suffer from this taint.

rolleyes was that necessary? ok carryin on...

this 'bling bling' society is rather scaley and has it's tenticles around everyone in the music bizz. And Prince being sheltered makes it worse. And we all know that Londell is Princes financial advisor. Prince also has this paranoid idea that he will go broke, so he does these weird buisiness fuck-ups. And the facts are pretty obvious, especially to Prince fans: Prince hasn't had a hit in years and the money to maintain Paisley Park and Princes extravagent lifestyle doesn't come cheap. Where else is he going to get the money? Of course, the fans could revolt, but that will never happen, so Prince is the actual victor. We buy the tickets and the cds then complain, but still keep buying the next P product that gets russled down the pike. We are to blame as much as anyone. And why in the hell didn't anyone complain about the prices at the soundchecks? See, being sheep has its bad side-effects.

Amen.

If even this were the case, you'd think that Prince could be convinced that by doing some things differently he would be guaranteed an even greater pay off both in the short term and in the long term by securing fan/consumer loyalty.

I am done with Prince. I will never listen to another Prince song again. He will never receive another penny from me again, I will never read any news about his music again. I will be throwing out my Prince music.

Farewell Prince, I hope when you go out on tour again, and you can't sell out a 500 seat club, you realize what you did to the people that loved your music most.

What melodrama!!!
Sounds like the maiden's part in a three-act play...
Farewell, my darling...You shall rue the day you disappointed me!!!(clasping hands across heart)

You'll see. You'll see. Without me, you are nothing...nothing I tell you! (eyes filling with tears)

You'll not be able to sell out a 500 seat club! Mark my words! Mark my words! (holding her arm across her forehead)

You are finished! You have disappointed too many!!!
Begone! Farewell!!! I love you no more!!!(falls to the ground).

So you made a mistake. You joined a club that was not as you expected...such is life...but YOU made the choice...
apparently a wrong choice. You bought a bad apple, ate half of it
and now you are mad...but YOU bought the bad apple. Now punish yourself by throwing out all your Prince albums...
Burn 'em! Burn 'em all...from your computer when you start missing them again.lol
So...how's everybody doing? smile

You know.

This is sad.

I love music. All styles from all generes. Prince is one of the few artists I've known who could reach out and touch these fields. He didn't experiment with out perfecting the style that reflected his personality. Rare, so rare did he did he perform in a way to make me say huh?

In my opinion, what made him so likable is where other artists were so apparant about their ego, Prince always seemed humble. He made you feel that he was tortured. He has all this talent to offer but he was restrained by the Company, competition, and his desire for perfection. Every lyric, strum of the guiter, thump-thump of the drum...it was bliss. He never preached, he just embraced you, offered you a seat on his motorcycle, and I rode.

Then his growing bitterness at failed relationships, the feud with record companies, the gnawling hunger to be closer to God, and the pain of whatever demons that dwelled within started manifesting itself. As cryptic as his comments are, you knew the betrayal was devastating to him. When he responded, when he fought to be free, instead of being applauded by his peers, he was shunned, ignorned, ridiculed.

Now, having awakened fromthe nightmare, he desires only one thing. He wants to be star again. Purple Rain star status. He wants people pawing him. He wants ctritics to say his name as if it was our Lord and Savior's. He wants to be able to look WB in the eye and truly say "I don't need you."

That want is destroying the loyals, the fanbase. Like Clinton's legacy, truth can be destructive. Prince's own ambition is destroying the "fams". Yes, yes. We know this isn't about commercial but what happened to Love41Nother, the charity that encouraged us to practice what we preached? When Love41Nother existed, there was always news, jokes, and refrences to other sites. It encouraged community. We weren't fans nor "fam". We were friends who shared a common goal. We truly were one.

NOw, we keep breaking apart. Why is this? My excuse is that I idolized him. Prince, was pretty much everything to me. I always said it was the music that had me hooked. I realize now it was the tragedy. He always talked about tragedy, wanting, needing, being the victim.

A vicitim?

But, I don't understand. I used to feel right at home with Prince. He was a warm bath - suitable in any weather. Now, I can't stand him. He screams arrogance, conceit, bitterness, self-centerness.

Can I say I'm done with Prince? Yes. This doesn't mean I won't continue to purchase his music, but i wont particpate with the club this year.

Look, I don't know about some of you, but if I'm going to spend a hundred dollars, I'd like to donate it to a charity or buy fiancee something. Hell, the state of the world makes me want to tuck it away for a rainy day.

I speak for myself but you know...well...

nod, I too used to "idolize" him, but now I realize he's a person who can make mistakes and that he has his faults, and that it all comes down to the music. But I also identify with him in more ways than one, which I'd rather not talk about, moving on, as far as the club goes: If you don't the way things are going don't join next year. Done, stop bitching and complaining about everything he does, he's only human, he can make mistakes too.

The NPG Music Club does totally suck ass and I will not join again... two years is enough for me, but the older stuff is still good.

I am, however, extremely disappointed with the way Prince operates his business...

The way to tell Prince how you feel about his business practices is to not join the club again... this is going to be my technique. I am also going to perform the useless extra step of writing to the NPG people about my disappointment... this will do absolutely no good, but it will at least be another complaint that they see.

One step ahead of you,i did that last year.I could see things slowing down from the rapid start of last year. The strange thing is i might join for year 3 if alot of people leave.Prince might do something special just to shit on the fans who left the club.

I want to say a few things...
I never complained about the CD's or club.
I'm not mad.
I'm happy nonmembers can buy it.
What I got out of the club this year was worth well over $100.
I said "because that's what we were told" If it did not say "exclusive" then BigFuckingOops on me but so what that's how they made it seem and ya all know it!
However it happen members ended up being lied to... face it.
One last thing...I love Rdhull

BTW here is the press release...
Friday February 15, 8:01 am Eastern Time
Press Release
SOURCE: Prince
One Nite Alone With Prince; A Man and His Music
'If in Resurrection one enters a new level of existence, then Prince's The Rainbow Children shows his ability to transcend his own musical genius. The Rainbow Children expounds Prince's musical breadth and wisdom, traversing myriad genres-funk, jazz, rock and gospel.' -- New York Press NEW YORK, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Music's peerless leader Prince will set out on a national Spring tour giving audiences a show like they've never seen before. Playing opera houses and jazz halls, Prince's thought-provoking show will attract a hip, mature audience that prefers authentic, good music to glossy lip-syncing extravaganzas.
Much of the show will feature songs off his recent album The Rainbow Children which critics have been heralding as ``one of Prince's most challenging and fascinating works to date'' (USA Today), ``easily the richest and most rewarding Prince album in a decade'' (Chicago Sun-Times) and ``a spontaneous-sounding, jazz-oriented work'' (New
York Daily News).
Simultaneously, Prince's NPG Music Club will enter its second year and, as always, members will receive special rewards exclusive only to them.
With no bungee cords, pyrotechnics or back-up dancers in sight, Prince will present a stripped-down show that allows the music to speak for itself. Catering to a sexy, mature audience, the jazz-tinged show will feature selections that Prince has never before performed (most notably material from The Rainbow Children) as well as classic hits he hasn't played in years. In a performance littered with piano and guitar solos, Prince will take the stage with special guests including veteran saxophonists Maceo Parker and Candy Dulfer. Like all Prince after-shows, nothing will be scripted (including no set list) leaving the audience to enjoy many spontaneous surprises!

In France we have a proverb which says "qui aime bien chatie bien". This translates in something like "who loves the most punishes the most". If you did not invest so much (I mean affectively) into Prince, you would not have come to such an extreme point. I understand you man, but follow my advice: admit that Prince is an asshole, but listen to his great music. Separate the man from the music, which is very easy for a non-hardcore like me, but seems more difficult for a former hardcore like you...

well, all u crazy nuts.. i was also worried, and a bit disappointed. but 2 b fair i have 2 say the following:

- when u have high expectations u will always b disappointed
- the club thing is a nice thing, 4 ex. when he's on tour, i really liked beeing treated kinda special (without beeing a vip or some groupie thang) and able 2 watch the shows in best rows.. compare it 2 the dayz b4... was even more stress and if u were luckily (only then) or spent hours 2 get the best places u had this, otherwhise..., agree?
- which other artist invites u 4 soundchecks , sends u the new cds straight @home and is just that cool as our man?
- also consider, that these cds (next 2 the shows) are better than nothing and compared 2 some nowadys poppers, 4 ex. enrico inglesias who brings out 2 news songs on a single cd and then re-launches the old cd with these 2 new traxs on it... its way far better than this, agree?
- and the most important: the year is not yet finished.. so maybe we will get another teaser or goodie l8 some dayz? online, in the mailbox, u never know, if prince is taking these "complaints" serious he might change his mind and once act a bit more spendable and gives us a plus sign?! there is always hope, but 4 shure hype!

i agree with u, that adding ona piano in the box seems senseless and greedy ... and also i agree with u that he could do more... but every human beeing can always do more... see it like that:

b happy in what u have got and what we have... 4 me, that matters most - and i have 2 say: the ona europe tour (4 shows 4 me) was really superbus and i enjoyed every minute and was happy with most of all...
u can always find negative things in every soup and topic... but b4 u judge 2 hard and get 2 much into bitterness face that:
as u always visit this place here and u know what im a talking off, and we all know that the man has our props and big talent, u will not b able 2 live without IT... so that's called the special prince hype, was, is, and always will b! so don't believe the hype, b real, enjoy the fun/k!

Why are telling us? If you really feel this way, don't post...just delete the damn acount and move on.

The reason he's telling us is because he has an emotional investment in it. Prince has done a good job of shutting out the public. People in general don't give 2 shits about the silly midget from St. Paul who used to preach positivity and now thinks he's a revival preacher. Therefore, those of us who are still here have an extra emotional attachment or investment. We have a relationship to maintain and when Prince fails us (Which he's been making a point of doing lately) it really hurts. Wahday spent time and energy loving Prince. He spent $ and he probably preached the gospel of Prince to his friends like the rest of us did. He's angry and he has a right to be. In fact I would say those of you who don't think Prince is being a shit lately are probably psychoticly negative people yourselves who like being pushed around because you all have some kind of martyr complex. Why am I still here? I'm just a no name reporter

"Emotional investment"? You gotta be kidding me. See it's the over the top people like you and this Wayday person who take being a fan (of any celebrity/musician) to the extreme.

You (and I mean 'you' in a general sense) get all wrapped up in the hype. The club is sending out an extra piano cd. Big whoop. If you didn't like the first one that was sent put the shit on ebay and shut up. I think Prince is just covering his ass by putting the ONA piano cd in the Live Set. There were a lot of folks who were complaining they didn't get it. I don't need two copies of the thing either, but as long as I get the 3 cd Live Set I couldn't care less. As a matter of fact, some of the mofo's whining the loudest didn't even join until they saw the tour was coming to their area. Ok, fair enough. But why gripe about cd's when you didn't care about cd's enough to join before the tour was coming to your area?

As for the other studio albums (Xenophobia, Madrid to Chicago, Best of O+>) that were mentioned by NPGMC, none of that was expressly promised to the club. It was not in the membership email I got. Please don't tell me what was in the ONA tour book. More than a few people complained loudly (especially after the Xenophobia snippets were used on NPCMC website) that they didn't want any of those albums. They wanted old unreleased stuff from the 80's. And these tracks, we all know, were never even mentioned as being possibly released by the club for 2002.

Hey pal, if people actually go around "preaching the gospel of Prince" (cut me a break) then they really need to hop off the obsessive fanatic train. If people think they actually have a "relationship to maintain" with Prince because they are fans of his music then that explains why a lot of you go off the deep end over any and everything.

The man invited you to join his little music club. For $100 you get first crack at the best seats during the concert tour and the chance to attend soundchecks. Also you get the music he releases before it goes to retail (if it makes it to retail). And I'm willing to bet Prince sees the Live Set just as Warner Bros. saw The Hits/B-sides set. Three separate albums.

The fact is, some of you act like you were expecting a secret decoder ring that you could communicate with Prince on and lights up everytime he takes a shit.

{throwing up my flame resistant shield}

Give me a break some of y'all are so infected by the system you don't know you are sick.

Prince is in his business to make money.
Why is it wrong for Prince to make money, when Warner Brothers made money off his ass doing the same things y'all are pissed off at Prince for ???

Please go and listen to PEARLS BEFORE THE SWINE before you leave !

I mean who wouldn't want to spend money on a club for exclusive music, and then get something anyone can buy at best buy for 40 dollars less?

I don't have time to read all this shit but can someone PLEASE explain the whole "exclusive music" thing to me?? It's like people get upset when he makes the music available to the masses when that's exactly what he should be doing! nuts

How many times have you said to a friend, "you gotta hear this song!" Or, "you've never seen Prince live??!! omfg" Good NESS, it's not like WE have to "pay" for the box set like everyone else - it's already paid for along w/ "preferred seating", soundchecks, cheap/free aftershows, blah blah blickety blah.

If you're not happy w/ membership just don't rejoin - all the music's gonna be released anyway, wait & buy it retail. That's another thing membership pays for, having first crack @ the music. If it's not worth it to you, save your $100 & go walk your fucking dog or something.

DAMN, how many "I'm upset!!" threads do we have to have on this?? The only REASONABLE gripe here - that Xenophobia (or something else new) wasn't the 4th cd of the set. "I spit on him"??? WTF??? Get a grip, people... neutral

Well said (read this in a "steeles" style)!!!

I am satisfied (just for a change in the declarations made here!), so I'm in for 2003...
