1 Prince song, live, written for someone else, just a track from one of his many albums, a remix, an extended version, an outtake or a b-side. The question is, which 1 song simply NAILS IT for you - go on, really think it through - just one, come on just one, not two or three or even a close runner up - JUST ONE (plus your personal reason why THAT one)?

I'll start you off - "WHEN DOVES CRY (full-length version)"

Why - when I first heard it, when it was first ever released, it literally stopped me in my tracks, and I just thought what on earth was that about - it has everything that screams Prince, in every single way (incl. in a strange way, no bassline, despite Prince nailing a groove on the bass). Live it is just brilliant, on vinyl it is just brilliant, on CD it is just brilliant. The words are poetic and meaningful, it is clever as a compsotion, it has the linn, the guitar, the cream, the passion - it is in a word, utterly and completely and unmistakebly PRINCE!

I can't. There are just too many that can be considered his "best". All for different reasons.

I have sat around contemplating this question for years....I really struggle with the answer...because differents speeds and different lyrics are all so hard to choose from...

If U choose a fast song, that can appear as if the slow romantic songs haven't brought the answer...and on that same line of thinking, if u choose a romantic song between lovers, that may indicate that u don't appreciate a song like, GOD...

At this very moment...4 all that it is...I'm gonna go with, "I'm Yours." from "For You."

My most favorite Prince song ever is and always will be Diamonds and Pearls. I love the music, the voices, the lyrics, its a beautiful song and I've always thought it was Prince's best.

The Most Beautiful Girl in the World comes in a very close second for me. Another brilliant song with amazing vocals and lyrics. So beautiful.

though When Doves Cry and The Beautiful Ones are great candidates as well.

If I were to pick the best ballad he'd ever written, that'd be a difficult pool of songs I'd have to choose from nearly impossible
