I kind of Miss Prince's BIGASS albums Recently wrote an album review on Emancipation.
Fact is, I kind of like his bigass albums. I do admit that I think Prince is often in desperate need of someone to "Edit" his material, but that doesn't mean he can't release a triple or double album of first rate material. The guy used to right 4 or 5 album's worth of material every year (AT LEAST) including work he did for others. It's not beyond my imagination that after 2 years of nothin', Prince could certainly produce another Emancipation length album of first rate material. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I'm relieved when he releases something short and sweet. But sometimes, I get the hankerin' for a hunk 'o' 3 CD cheeeze, ya heard?

Yeah, we're definatly due for one of those "bigass" sets again. He was certainly very fond of them in the late 90s/early 2000s (Emancipation, Crystal Ball, the New Power Pack, ONA Live and even the canned 7CD Chocolate Invasion set).
I remember being pretty blown away by the consistency of Emancipation. It would be a nice challenge for him to see if he can still pull off something like that. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

The only overwhelming thang about Emancipation was it's size, then, when you got used to the songs, you found them mostly lacking soul, except maybe that second disc.
Most his multiple disc sets lack alot in consistency, Emancipation was kinda dull; Prince TRYING to put together another SOTT set, but failing miserably, as he chose to do it using sound and production that sounded dated the second you played it. Crystal Ball was a MESS; The Truth should have been a single disc and the three discs itself were poorly compiled AND edited; what a hoax. Yet, on both of those bad sets, there was brilliance scattered through out, as Prince's vault material isn't BAD, it just needs to be compiled in a right way. I mean; sure, a see-through box is fun ( ), but I rather would have had even more extended liner notes and a booklet adorned with outtake pictures. Prince, an artist SAYING he battles with his own musical past, then pimps it out for 21 nights, should be spanked for not concentrating on better songwriting; aka songs he wants to center an entire new tour around, instead of throwing yet another greatest hits tour our way. But I think he's over it; he's too old. He cannot even remember the words to his own songs and needs a teleprompter and he rather jams on his better known motives, cuz then he at least can fool us into thinking he still matters. Well, maybe as a performer, but as a songwriter he is kinda spent, it seems; only managing a real good song once every two years, packed inside of sub-standard muzak filler. I don't hate him for that, he's still my buddy and he still has one of the most versatile male voices. He's on automatic, it seems. On the other hand, he's been quiet for some time now. Maybe he is cooking something up that will blow me offa my socks again. An album with a purpose, songs that actually have a heart. We'l see.

Somehow I have the feeling that sooner or later he will turn up with a Bigass Album so exciting it will make us all buy the Watchtower

naw ,
no no no, Prince has had nothing to say musically or lyrically to fill one album let alone a biagass one. It's been same cheesy musical style 90's - present same subject matter covered over and over,..no more Lolita, Please. Im perfectly fine buying these little filler albums to help support his touring. IF really he decided he had something to say, cool. Even a passionate shake your ass album about Johovah, but little cheesy albums is better than bigass Emancipation type cheesy albums. A little cheese and a sip of good wine once in a while is good, but not a bigass chunk of cheese that you gotta down the whole bottle to enjoy. [Edited 11/10/08 6:09am]

I have yet to sit through the entire sprawl of Emancipation of P P. Even with Crystal Ball...I don't think I have put that on in it's entirety for a very long time.
Too inconsistant and hodge podge for me...plus lots of filler. Christian Zombie Vampires

he wronged quite a bit, too! HHHHEEEEYYYYOOOO!!! The bigass albums (and I'd include the long single discs like or TRC) were kind of fan-only albums, but those had real gems. The shorter ones (particularly the last 3) sound like Prince-lite. Decent, but not very nourishing, and not enough to hold my interest for long. My Legacy

I agree with your opinion of the quality, but I wouldn't call it a hoax. I think he meant it as a proper bootleg (didn't it say bootleg right on it?) And when you buy a bootleg of Prince you get some great stuff and some Poom Poom. It IS crazy that the Truth never got a proper release, tho. Same with ONA Piano, which I still haven't heard My Legacy

Prince needs to focus and write a concise, relevant album that is only one disc.
I think the days of the 2, 3, 4 or 5-disc sets are behind him ... unless it is a comprehensive Vault collection. And even then, the demand for that is only from the die-hard fans. I think what I'm tiring of is the immature lyrics and the self-congratulatory tone in all of his music. For example, I don't want to hear about his hair or how fine his ladies are. I want to hear about loss, politics, government, true love, etc - but in a serious tone.

W was given a budget surplus and the country was on track to wipe out the deficit when Clinton left office.
I think just like when you turn in a car, W has to turn the county back inn, in as good shape with a full tank of gas. The right has completely lost its mind.

So...what...W should stay president until things are the way they were when he took office? Who's gonna put the World Trade Center back up? Who's lost their mind?
