Robin Thicke compared to Prince

I was just watching something and an ‘entrainment minute’ came on and they were interviewing Robin Thicke. They said critics are comparing his new CD to Marvin Gaye and Prince. Robin said that growing up he love Michael Jackson and Prince. He said he already has gone through the Prince University. I guess he was in Minneapolis working with Terry and Lewis. “Plus, I have family in Fergus Falls so I have Minnesota connections.”

Has anyone heard the new CD? I have his last one...it wasn't too bad.

I haven't heard his cd..although he has a beautiful voice.

He's incapable of singing live on key, so all comparisons should be obsolete.

Don't care. I can't stand him. He used the phenomenal lack of success of Eric Benet and the absence of Maxwell 2 rip them both off, and became successful. Can't stand him. No comparison 2 Prince whatsoever.

All the hate.....Robin Thicke is a phoenomenal singer/songwriter. He certainly is not Prince by any means, but he can hold his own.

Granted he's no Prince, but I think he has a cool CD. He makes enjoyable contemporary music that is very retro. He also has some romantic leaning lyrics. I liked his last CD better than his new one and sevveral cuts reminded me of Prince, but Robin has his own sound.

no comparison but you dont have to sound like nor perform like an artist to be influenced. i also think he has a something to offer, not as much as prince but who offers as much as our boy LOL. Theres always been room on my ipod for the young man and that wont change because some ill informed writer compared him to prince.

I love Prince; there is only one. But Robin is a good musician in his own right, and he *can* sing. He's still a developing artist, and is a lot better than some others who may have more fame.

Give him time. He respects the craft and keeps getting better.

Plus his wife is FYNE!!!

I have never understood how people can compare these artists that do not make even one uptempo jam to Prince. On most Prince albums, the majority of the songs are uptempo. And when the artists themselves want to say they were influenced by Prince, they need to take into consideration the type of songs that Prince made and the type of instruments he used, not just copying his voice.

As for Robin, well I love his music. I love his voice and he is a great live preformer. He is sexy and hot in his own way. Nothing like Prince.

And his generic looks remind me of Orlando Bloom, i.e. a blank canvas with no personality. Even that penis nose Justin Timberlake looks good in comparison.

Thicke is very much like Gary Barlow - a decent songwriter who should just stay away from performing. He's not developing either, he's been around for 10 years already.

Funny how everyone (well almost everyone ) bitches and whines that Prince is crap these days...then slams some poor guy for ever being able to be as good as Prince

There are plenty of good people about, he's just not one of them in my opinion. Check out my current fav whiteboy with soul, Jamie Lidell. Kicks the crap out of Thicke in every department, or The Heavy with a singer who's a re-incarnation of Curtis Mayfield if I ever heard one. For a more Pop/Dance flavour, Har Mar Superstar vocally beats Thicke and produces catchier songs - shame he looks like Ron Jeremy.
