Prince becoming a JW ruined his career! Prince will never again keep us off balance between the themes of love, sex, and God. It was exciting when you didn't know were he was going 2 be nasty on one track and then flipped it around on another track. Prince can no longer write from his gut because of the JW bullshit! I'm sorry... We will never get a boxed set with extraloveable or Electric intercourse and G-spot...I never thought that Prince would loose his mind and become a JW. Changing the lyrics 2 d.m.s.r. from "strip right down to your underwear into "dance 2 the morning light or Sexuality into Spirituality is frustrating 2 listen 2... I would've never became a fan back in 84 if he was doing shit like this. Prince has lost his mind and now knocks on door to door pushing JW on people. Oh yes! i forgot he is not having sex now as well. BOB4theFUNK

Prince always veered toward Christianity, but he never let it oppress his sexual side before. He had always seemed to interpret his love for God as something that shouldn't be constrained by orthodoxy. That's what I loved about him so much. Nowadays he's bragging about being celibate as if it's an accomplishment and proselytizing like it's his duty to enlighten the savages. I don't hold it against him, but it's not exactly something I can relate to.
All in all, though, I don't think the conversion has affected his music all that much. I think the fact that he's satisfied with who he is now affects it a whole lot more. He seems to feel he has nothing left to prove (and that's fair enough after all he's accomplished), and that always signals a sort of creative death. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

rusty please just give us a break. i c where u r coming from but its no use. fussign all day long doesnt make it any better. try 2 find a new access 2 his music nowadays, maybe that will help.
and as u said, he wont get back 2 the way he used 2 b, so why do u complain then? we r sure it will stay this way - theres absolutely no use in complaining all the time. take your time 2 listen 2 his new material and realize that its the way it is now. prince wrote a song 4 u: crystal ball, 3rd cd, 5th track - its called 80s R Over

Hmmmmm no it ruined the music for the old whinging fans, who miss the 80s when they were young and had no wrinkles.....Not his career! Everybody's looking 4 the ladder

Prince has moved on...
He has made a choice to become a JW and we should respect that. I don't think a sell out 21 nights at O2, London supports your argument. He is as supported now as he always was - his career is not ruined - he has just moved on. For those of us that have followed him for years and for those who are just discovering him, he has provided us with a vaste aray of variety in his music that we can all still appreciate. The type of music you are talking about is just one side of him - there is plenty of others to listen to. It's not just about sex, he is deeper than that - appreciate the man, music and talent. [Edited 10/19/08 12:10pm] so, what is the answer 2 the question of U
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't think it ruined his career at all. I respect him more in that he is being true to himself. People have the right to change, and his music IMO is still great. He doesnt have to be singin about jackin someone off to sound good.

Prince is just like Mary J. He's doing Just Fine.
Regardless of his religion when we go see him we get to see one of the most amazing live performers ever. We were introduced to him through his more salacious side but the truth is we didn't know him then in real life either. For all we know his using sex is just a marketing gimmick as a way to get the music and mystique across. After all it is Show Business and Prince learned that from the very beginning. I could never understand why when someone makes a positive step in their life people complain jus cause things aren't the way they want it. Damn selfish muthasuckas. Besides, his career isn't ruined, cause he can still draw thousands of ppl to see him perform even his most recent songs. So basically wat you're sayin and nothin is the same thing I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

no, no no!
Prince has always been religious, orthodoxed or not. So his taking on the JW religion didn't ruin his career. It's his ego and inability to take criticism that ruined it. Even a Buddhist would falter with an ego like Prince's. I mean, suing your fans? what??!?! Besides, he probably converted to JW just to get some of Larry Grahams willing and able manpussy anyways. You know his ass is thinking about going all Kaballa or some shit now that Madge is divorcing Guy Ritchie.

Anyone who feels their beliefs are better for someone they have never met or know is welcome to believe that but acting on it is a bit much. I have no ill will towards anyone or their beliefs and I certainly don't expect or try to impress upon others that they should in anyway share in my beliefs. We are all right, all "saved", all "witnesses", all "free". We are "all of the above"
I think Mava Staples said it best.... I agree with her..She's a wise woman and has been around a long time.....I know of no one that makes such a spectical of a religion than Prince...He's chosen to be the poster child and that is what he is. It's just that contravertial side of Prince I think that needs to pick one of three of the hottest subjects to never bring up....money, politics and religion... he loves to be contravertial. He loves Jahova...He's a public personality that choses to use that public persona to influence others considering their religion or his....ummmmm it has added to the intrigue of his mystique. We really know nothing of the man....but what he wants us to believe we think we know.....Shock appeal.... he can't run around naked anymore... not just because of religion....so why not shock us with something else.... as he says .... "it ain't over"..... I don't expect it will be anytime soon he will give up the fight... it's great for business....he's a contradiction as we all are.... he may say he's something today and change his mind after he says it.....that's being "free"...I would really just like to enjoy his music and not really get into all this religion stuff....It has sort of tainted the songs that I used to just enjoy.... Those songs are suggesting things that I don't really agree with...It's sad for me....It was just great dancing music and a great concert for me..... Throughout my lifetime I've made the mistake that people that have a talent and have done well with that talent (because there are millions of just as talented people out there, more so maybe) are more intelligent and, well, doing something right so that I felt more safe around them and might learn something to better myself....I'm sure there are some out there somewhere..... I appologise for the poor spelling .... I'm tired...and disapointed....let's just call him "Joe Jahova"

Hey Y'All, Eye'm waiting 4 a gospel concert, Can't U just picture it? As he so rightfully said in the intro of My Name Is Prince,,,,,He nos who created him & why & 2ward the end, he aknowledges he has 2 sides -- good and bad,,,,,they R friends meaning he loves himself 2 the 9s as God would have us 2 do. Now mayB many of us never dared 2 walk on the darker side of our personalities as Prince has over the last 35 years, but now we should bow 2 his right 2 walk the other road know as Spirituality 2ward Heaven. Eye believe he has always been seeking the Higher Purpose of life, but now feels free 2 set his own rules and course of life & not have them made 4 him. It must B had 2 live under a glass 4 most of his life. If Eye ever get the opportunity, Eye'll aplogize 4 putting that bar so high as he has nothing more 2 prove 2 any of us, well after Eye just sit and glaze in2 those amber eyes. "Goodnight,Sweet Prince, Wherever U R...

Prince has matured. He simply can not be that same man he was as a 25 yr old. He's grown he's exploring his spiritual side and that's cool. I love it when he sings about spiritual things but he also can flip it and sing about sensual things. I think a lot of people have a lot of more respect for him these days.
But you know I'm going to love him no matter what!

That's right. Me also, I do miss the old nasty Prince, but that doesn't mean I don't like the new one. I mean, listen 2 the live rendition of '3121' on the Indigo Nights cd, listen to the horns; he incorporated more tunes in2 one, creatin' a mini-opera song. Same with 'The One', transformed and improved with 'The Question Of U' intro and outro and 'Fallin' by Alicia Keys in the first part, before the singing'. He's moved on, yeah. It's true. Time never really was important to him, and if we get nostalgic and sighing, well we could put on 'Dirty mind' and spin it out loud. Memories are good. But we cannot thrive on memories. Madonna fans don't need too, 'cause she's still cursin' and givin' fingers and how does she look like? Pathetic. Thank God, Prince is a smart and clever man.

Allthough i have noth much with that JW, 'celibate', retired pimp image he is presenting nowadays, you could also say the following:
'Prince going from a rather 'save' disco-pop artist to a punky freak singing about incest and head on Dirty mind ruined his career' or 'Prince going psychedelic art-pop in 1985 ruined his career' or 'Prince playing the role of diabolical sex-love preacher on Lovesexy ruined his career' or 'Prince incorporating shitty rappers and 'new jack swing' into his music in the early nineties ruined his career' or 'Prince leaving WB, proclaiming himself a slave, ruined his career'. But, Despite of all of that, he still has a 'career' You are getting my point.....? lol [Edited 10/21/08 9:57am] [Edited 10/21/08 9:58am]

I think he's doing just fine. i miss the old days sure, but that was 20-something years ago, time to drop it. his religion has not affected me, each to their own.
In some ways his becoming a JW has made him more interesting, a complete u-turn from the old 'nasty' prince, it's as fascinating to watch and listen to him now as it was freaky to see him at the ritz in his bikini briefs in 1981. few got him back then, and it seems like few get him now. bet he isn't losing sleep though. Prince's journey through life has made him into the revered legend he has now become, not just his 78-88 run.

I think the moderator should get involved and lock this thread down. If you were on here(the org) dissing someone because of their race, some action would be taken against you. I think the act of you attacking someone for their religious views should be treated the same way. I'm sick of people saying Prince, or anyone else for that matter, has lost his mind because he chose to become a JW.
