Nope. He's only been on SNL 3 times, 2005, 1989 and 1981.

Yeah, I know, just found this:

And I've seen those 3 performances, but I just heard a recording from a rehearsal performance in MPLS before the release of the Gold Experience and he says that they'll be performing SNL on September 30. Guess it didn't happen... I wonder what the story is with that...

I remember...It was the season opener for SNL and like a week before he canceled. I can't remember why but I my friend (who watched the show) told me they did some jokes about Prince since he canceled.

Man that was a long year....promoting the CD and then nothing...for months....The AMA in January/February....David Letterman....Man it was a long summer. I remember calling the NPG store to find out information..

I remember that. David Spade did his little "Hollywood Minute" skit (on that episode) and put P on full blast. He threatened to kick P's ass for not showing up.

He was also supposed to show up at the R&RHOF concert that year and never showed. I guess he was going through his "Sly Stone" phase that year.

Yeah I remember rushing home to see him, but he was a no show. I'm pretty sure the blues travlers played instead.

Thanx. I don't know why I keep thinking 3121 came out in 05. We didn't get an album that year, only SST.

bassicaly, SNL wanted lrics to the song he was gonna play, so that they could censor out swearing, only prince wouldnt agree, so then they said he'd have to mime (lip sync). and that was a no-go for prince (although he's 1995-6 concerts were practically performed half and half live and backing tape eg Vicki waiting!) and the performance never happened!

Where did you hear that? Prince was on a lot of TV programs before 1995 (including SNL in '81) and never had a problem with swearing on TV?
