Prince Instrumentals

I want to make a CD of all his rapturous instrumentals. Any suggestions?

Avoid all instrumentals recorded prior to 1983.

Two off the top would be from "Under the Cherry Moon"...Kama Sutra, to me, was beautiful but is already a CD...there's also "When the Lights Go Down" on OF4S...I'm not really qualified to give you a list, but I hope my suggestions help (a little wink

Get all 'Madhouse' albums, released & unreleased. Including 12" versions as well as the B-sides.

Nettie, you're rocking my boat sweetheart...

Other cool suggestions post 83 would be:
'God [Love Theme from 'Purple Rain']'
'Lust U Always' (unreleased funk workout from 85)
'Venus De Milo'
'Alexa De Paris'
'The Question Of U'[orchestral version] (also unreleased)

I'll think of some more later.

DEFINITELY!!! Madhouse 8 and 16 are great to have...haven't heard 24, so I can't say anything about that one.

Then you don't know what you're missing! Did you know there are not one but 2 unreleased 'Madhouse' albums titled '24'???

Maybe you can seperate the instrumental at the end of "TRC" (the song) from the rest of the song? That surely is one kick-ass instrumental!

The funny thing is that "24" was never released commercially; that's a sad thought. I would love to take a listen to them.

What about "new" works? I heard "Habibi" and 'bout hit the flo'!!! It was just that amazing! Any more suggestions?

Yeah. And why not "separate"the instrumental coda at the end of 'Glam Slam (album version) while you're at it.

Also, you can't go wrong with the extended portion of 'Thunder' (available with the Joffrey Ballet video), but that's stretching it a bit.

Also, if you really dig your jazz sax flourishes, you could do a great deal worse than culling both 'Susannah's Pajamas' and 'Yes' from 'The Family' album. Those tracks are pretty classy.

No-one has mentioned 'The Sensual Everafter' from TRC. The first Prince song that truly doesn't need vocals. His finest instrumental moment ever (in my humble opinion).

This song is what inspired me to do it. I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. It just takes me away.

Where the hell do I find Madhouse albums?

"U Gotta Shake Something" from The Flesh sessions in '86 shouldn't be too hard to find. And damn if it ain't funky!

'U Gotta Shake Something' isn't really what you could call an "instrumental", since it features a repetitive chorus throughout (as well as a mock-"DJ" announcement by none other than Eric Leeds).

The same goes for 'Housequake (7 min Mo'Quake)' for that matter.

Don't forget "The Plan" from Emancipation, it's short but would be great in the middle of a Prince instrumental compolation.

'The Plan' was actually an excerpt from the 'Kamasutra' CD.
