WHAT ARE YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY'S REACTION WHEN U "INTRODUCE" THEM TO PRINCE

Yesterday I "introduced" one of my friends to Prince. After I gave him the rundown of wat I know so far about Prince's musical history, I asked him to guess which guy is Prince. He pointed Morris Day cause he say he find Morris look like he could b around that age. When I showed him who Prince is, he denied it!...THEN I got him to confess that Prince is THE PRETTIEST MAN HE EVA DID SEE! He felt weird that he was noticing such a pretty man, then he made it clear to me that he (my friend) is not gay lol I played Satisfied for him and that did it! Now he wants alllll of Prince's music! I feel so good now that I've found someone (in my country) that I can ramble to about Prince cool razz

I introduced my younger brother to Prince 20 years ago and we went to our first Prince concert together in 1988 and more recently at the 02 shows in London last year. He's actually more into him than me now!

Being in rural NE, I get made fun of alot for it. I watched PR w/ my mom thinking she would love it...I was wrong. She went as far as to call him an abomination, like she goes to church or something! So, I'm in the Prince closet at this point. confused

Last night I controlled the music that was played in my dorm room. Of course, it was all Prince related. My roommate seemed cool with it, but she was slightly distracted.

I was flipping through my 21 Nights book, and I noticed in one picture, that Prince had some facial hair on his chin [I obviously, hadn't noticed it before]. Then she asked, sarcastically if he had enough testosterone to grow one.

I then had to stick up for him and tell her how he's very much into women, despite what most people think. I think she stopped listening after a few moments. confused

I didn't really introduce my folks to Prince. My dad introduced him to ME falloff

Told this story a million times...
Some odd number of years ago, we were flipping through the channels and found Purple Rain (already in progress) on VH1. Seeing as the movie was already in progress, I had no interest, but my dad encouraged me to stick with it and see what I thought.

I thought that Prince (didn't know much at the time, not sure if I even remembered that he was the one in the "1999" video I saw years b4 that or even if I remembered that he did the two songs later that I had heard a million times already)... I was very intrigued by him. I saw a musician who threw himself into work, lived and breathed it... never saw anything like it before.
Of course after seeing him perform "I would die 4 U/Baby I'm a Star"... I was GONE.

I'd introduced a handful of the albums I've bought to my mom and dad on car rides to and from my college cool

My mom has heard:
Around the World in a Day (all except for "Temptation")
Musicology
3121
Parade
prince (minus the first 2 songs, 3 chains o' gold, Arrogance & The Flow)

...in order to be considerate and not attract too much attention with his explicit material or anything with too many curse words lol
She dismissed Around the World in a Day as downright weird (she doesn't get him) and thought 3121 and Musicology as somewhat dull, she couldn't get into them. Parade, I think she liked hmmm but can't be sure.

My dad has heard:
The Very Best of...
Purple Rain (but of course it used to be his CD, I just adopted it falloff )
Planet Earth & 3121 (played them back to back because I didn't want to stop with PE. He was driving me home for winter break, it was at night and the roads were twisty and kind of foggy. We were cruising in his BMW at the time we were listening to "Love"... it came to mind that maybe we'll crash because it was so foggy out falloff I didn't even care. I was so lost in the song).

I think I play just about anything in front of my dad. My mom doesn't quite get Prince, has called him an acquired taste and playing anything explicit in front of her would raise questions. falloff I'd like to avoid a lecture that'd come after playing Come in front of her even if I deleted the last track, the title track would be overkill.

Maybe next time I come home and he's the one driving, I'll play 1999 for him cool it has some great music, I think he'd like it.

Up until this point, I haven't tried to convert any of my friends and really have no intention to falloff
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I have a few cousins that have always liked Prince...My older Aunts and Uncles, I don't know about their musical tastes...and My Parents like Prince. My brother is a Rock-n-Roll, techno kind of guy, and he's never disliked Prince. 2 of my kids like Prince. 2 of them hadn't paid enough attention to really have an opinion. cool

My mom loves Princes' music, has from the first time I played it back in 1981. I've taken her to four concerts(Lovesexy-Mpls, Musicology-MI, 3121-Macy's 7/7/07 and Target Center 7/7/07).

My mom was used to Iron Maiden blasting from upstairs, so Prince's stuff from Controversy on wasn't such a shocker.

I do remember her being pleasantly surprised when I once played the first album downstairs and she said; "Oh wow! He made good music as well!"

Then I explained her, just for fun, what he was singing about on Soft And Wet.
cool She just rolled her eyes.

Ok where to start really. Every single person i introduced Prince into say, He's crap, don't like his music, he can't sing, lryics are crap. They say that Pink, N Duves Ultrabeat, or crappy pop english indie of today is better (I'M english biggrin ) I don't mind music of today but Prince is alot better and still can make great music. Yea there's good bands such as Coldplay, Metallica and more but Prince is better that what my mates listen to. So MATES PRINCE IS BETTER mad mad

They are all on board, and have been for decades. They trust my judgment and ability to look beyond the surface. Many of my family are musically inclined, so Prince was and is a breath of fresh air.

I have yet to meet but one person that likes Prince and they approached me. Sometimes I think that Prince's antics get more play than his music and for that he tends to suffer.....He scares a lot of people...I had know idea....No wonder I never met a Prince fan before Musicology....I was in Michigan when Prince started to hit the clubs a lot earlier this year. A Prince song came on the car radio and I said.."yeah! Prince turn it up" and he did but didn't get into the song...after the song was over I said "Man, Prince is everywhere these days!". The guy driving looked scared and quietly said "no he's not". I explained about it being in LA.... he was quiet for a long time....I don't say anything to anyone now...except my LA friends and everyone I dragged to concerts... and only one really liked him....I don't know his whole story....so I don't get it....That may be my problem....I think his past is truly haunting not just him.....

I don't introduce my family and friends to Prince, simply because they don't like his music, so I don't even waste my time trying. Back in the 80's, my older brother became concerned because I listened to Prince's music. rolleyes WTF, like that's going to make me go out and do the stuff that Prince used to sing about?? Gimme a break, I'm not that stupid. evillol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I know my mom and dad would love Prince.... getting them there would be another story....They'd have a blast!! and I know my dad would sneak those stupid "bones" he takes anywhere music is and play double handed the whole way through. Yeah, and my mom would be saying "yea! yea!" like a dingbat....and trying to dance. It would be good for them..... If only I could get them both in one place, afford the tickets and get them there.... they would know happiness and joy at least for a time..... they don't even speak to one another.barely since I was 17...But I know they'd love to go...just too stubburn. Wow, they're 73 now.....you wouldn't know it....ok back to reality.... sad
