P vs Simon Cowell - who would you rather have to launch your music career / debut album! [thinking of Shelby]

Hope P ain't reading this 1!. So thinking about the great potential that Shelby has and her upcomming CD you know already what the songs will be like i.e. like Tamars and of course it will be a Prince produced and played product to squeeze some sales from us!. It will not be a patch on contemporary female R&B [which presently has some strong singers singing great , catchy songs with real musicians and at least some imagination].
As much as we hate Simon, you know that if he was in control of your initial marketing launch and debut CD you WILL compromise your art but the chances of being a world wide commercial success will be huge. That said Prince will control your every move equally as much.
Tough choice, who would you honestly choose?!.

Prince has "helped" a lot of artists along the way and none of them became famous from his touch. If anything they were ignored because of it. It's funny how Carmen Electra became the most famous protege, but not for having anything to do with him. Hell most people don't even know she had a cd out! I would go with Simon.

Well, because Shelby isn't some young, hot, sex vixen that would market very well, I don't think she'd have a chance at catching Cowell's attentions, so she's better off with someone who appreciates her talent for what it is.

lot of prince side projects were big hits .
maybe prince isn't diverse as producer (like rick rubin)
because he always add some of his trademark style but can't we say the same for other producers like timerland???

So basically "one hit wonders". Don't get me wrong...I personlly loved The Family, Jill Jones, Taja Sevelle, Mavis Staples, and so on, but I wouldn't say any of them were hits by any means other than for Prince fans.

Umm... maybe you're not aware, but the vast majority of people SC signed while a A&R rep were one-hit wonders or no-hit wonders themselves. And he did this for a living. P started with it only for people he found attractive and only very recently for people he saw as talented.

Chasing

Not Simon Cowell, he is ridiculous, is only interested in himself and his own hype and his acts are generally pretty lame. He just generates publicity cos he's damn ugly face is everywhere - he may be some kind of 2000's pop icon in term so of critiquing talent, but I honestly think he knows jack.

Prince won't get major success for Shelby, I am not sure anyone is that interested beyond the fans in anything that just isn;t Prince's own stuff - but man the guy is a musical genius, we all know that - Cowell isn't - end of!

Sorry, hate Simon, but would have to go with him.

One thing is for sure...Simey and P...both control freaks.

Can I have Sharon, Dannii or Louis??!!

Simon Cowell will only want bells and bland pads washing over everything. Anyway, it's about time Simon came out.

tough decision..if this was the late 80's mid 90's i would say prince but now, simon could possibly get shelby more xposure in the public's eye than prince could
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I'm not so sure about Simon, unless he wasn't involved in Bo Bice, Blake Lewis, Ruben, Justin Guarini's post-idol career launches. A big push can help, yes, but either a person takes off or not.

Imago

Simon Cowell. He hears music as a business man.

Prince hears it as an artist. Sure, he can write a hell of a hit single when he wants, but he's not exactly trustworthy when it comes to pumping them out anymore.

As far as his proteges not doing well, I think it's cause they were more or less releasing "Prince" productions. You were hearing Prince music--the only difference is that Prince wasn't actually singing the songs himself. It's hard to see anyone succeeding on their own when they're just someone else's mouthpiece.

Of course recent Prince projects have a been a bit different. Tamar's Milk & Honey definitely had her stamp on it. The album is slicker than 3121, more defined, though a great deal more bland, save for 3 tracks. But it shows Prince being much more in tune with his protoge's own talents and what they bring to a project--Tamar wasn't just acting as his mouthpiece--perhaps that's why the CD was stillborn lol

P always takes control and the artist never grows. They become a female version of him. Simon knows what the charts and the kids want. I don't like him but has done a great job with these young artist...charts and money wise. That Lewis girl is doing good. Once the AI artist leave his lable and managment they all have sucked....Fant, Rubb and Clay all have been dropped by their lable. T

Me, personally, I'd hate to be churned through the machine that is American Idol. Prince might be controlling, but at least he wouldn't use a cookie cutter. It would be working with a producer who I admire.
