was anyone around when For You came out?

I think this album is a total masterpiece, very raw and melodic. I love Prince's falsetto and when I listen to it, I can only imagine what fans were thinking when they were around at the time of release for what was to follow.

So who was around when For You came out, and what are your favourite tracks?

I bought "For You," shortly after the release of "Prince." I was only 12 and a half...I was fortunate to win the "Prince," album from a radio station, that introduced me 2 Prince more intimately. I can believe I may have heard, "Soft and Wet," and didn't know who sang the song. cool

i was alive when the album came out in 1978 but never heard it until 1984. and when we're dancing close and slow is on the album "prince"
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Not only was I alive, but I was inducted into the wonderful world of Prince by my cousins, Dawn and Robin, on this album. My cousins lived upstairs from me and babysat me and my younger brother and got to hear the album many times not long after it's release.

I purchased that record 5 minutes after hearing Soft & Wet on the radio.
A record shop was 1 block from my house.

I had just turned 2, when it came out, so was around (But it wasn't released) in New Zealand until March 1984, the Muldoon government seriously curtailed releases of obscure artists until 1982. NZ was a South African style dictatorship then

I only heard this for the first time fairly recently, I was really surprised at how good it was, and how much I liked it. I didn't expect to because I'd only really heard negative type things, like it was 'over produced' etc. I LOVE Crazy You! I think the whole album's really fresh and breezy sounding too - still! cool

Oh, and I was 'around' but not really 'around' wink

When We're Dancing Close And Slow is not on For You. It's on the Prince album.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I wasn't alive yet....I had a few decades to go before I was conceived. lol

I wish I could have been around so that I could experience things as they came out instead of trying to look around everywhere to get some of P's older stuff.

I remember getting it and loving it immediately. I was in high school and Soft and Wet had come out and it was so different from most of the dudes that was out at the time and I like the vocals. Bought and went over to my friends house and played it and have been into Prince from that moment on.

I was alive as well, but it actually came out in 78, it's even states such on the album cover. I was 7, but I didn't know about him until the Prince album a year later. I Wanna Be Your Lover was my introduction.
