Just out of curiousity, what do you all think the reasoning for shooting these videos is? Especially if the video probably won't be seen, what is the point of spending the money and time and talent to produce one?

I'm not being sarcastic. I just wonder from the business or artistic standpoint what the purpose would be...

The reason usually was because they were actually intended to be released.
Hot Wit U was supposed to get released as a single at one point and the
same goes for I Like It There.

I think Prince was making certain videos just to make them. Especially in the mid-90s. Come on, a lot of songs from TGE were made into videos, but will never see the light of day (and probably weren't intended to either).

There's a few tracks that just had videos made for them, with no intention of
releasing them as singles. But the vast majority were made because they were
intended to be released.

From TGE, the following tracks were all originally intended to be released as
singles...Dolphin, P. Control, Endorphinmachine.

He thought he could promote an album that was never to be released, huh? lol

Who knows...he filmed everything but never released anything. He was the one complianing that he wouldn't film another video ("because they are expesive") until Clive gets him a hit.

I find it interesting that he complained about videos being expensive and for "kids" only after he couldn't get a video played on a video channel. Also, after that production company in MPLS was saying he didn't pay is video bill.
