Nov 19, 1996 - Emancipation was released. Happy (belated) birthday.

Probably the album I listen to least from anything of the last 20 years, there are a few gems hidden among some real plastic and unexciting tracks. With all the hype, I was expecting 3CDs of pure Prince - Gold Experience / Rainbow Children quality mature music. Instead we got Get Yo Groove On and We Gets Up.

I would love to hear a 3CD set with his current band. A studio one would be amazing, but as of now I'd be content to receive a live one in the mail...

I'm getting old

I READ ON A PRINCE SITE THAT EMANCIPATIONS HAS A LOT OF REFRENCES TO MAYTE AND THEIR BABY-1 OF THE SONGS HAS THE BABY'S HEARTBEAT IN IT...CONSIDERING HOW EVERYTHING TURNED OUT, I WOULD THINK THAT THIS CD WOULD KINDA BE DEPRESSING. I WANNA GET IT THOUGHT CUZ THE LOVE BETCHA BY GOLLA WOW!

"Instead we got Get Yo Groove On and We Gets Up. " + silly non-singles choices (even if I love The Holy River) but there are : My Computer, The Love We Make and... that's all! No: Damned If I Do, White Mansion, In This Bed, The Human Body, Joint 2 Joint, Sex In The Summer, Curious Child, Style & Sleep Around are cool & when the fuck will he release Slave 2 the System?

The expectation of this album, and then the listening to it, severly tested my Prince fanatiscm. Its absolutely bloody awful. Some good songs yes, but so much filler and poor songs makes it one of the worst albums he's done. Its the one that took him out of the reach of mass audiences. A single album of 10/12 half decent songs would've been so much better.
