He must be trying to get some reaction or some media publicity...building the mystic of a new album. Seriously he doesn't need to do that does he, everyone will go out and buy it. :
Edna always supports every Prince album, He shouldnt be too concerned what she thinks, she likes almost anything, she comes off as one of those pay for play type columnists. She'll praise anything for the right price. Her opinion matters nada other than a good quip from a major newspaper. Other than that, i'm really looking forward to Prince rocking out! [Edited 10/4/08 15:30pm] Exactly. Confirmation of quality work from her is like the weatherman "confirming" that the sun will rise. She's useless. While it would be great to hear an all-out rock effort by Prince, it would have also been great to hear Crystal Ball 2, or Roadhouse Garden. Fat chance of that.

I'll definitely be waitin overnight outside the wrecka stow for the doors to open when Shelby's CD comes out
NOT!! I got so sick of her at the London shows last year, hogging the stage all the time. Hopefully this project will go the same way as the Tamar CD and never see the light of day. Now the story of Prince releasing a true rock album, if it were along the lines of songs like Endorphine Machine or even more rockier is definitely something I would be into. Hell he should do an all out metal album, get Michael B on drums and "metal up your ass"! [Edited 10/6/08 1:26am] Homer Simpson: "I call the big one Bitey"!!

[Edited 10/6/08 1:26am] Prince doing heavy-metal - that image brought a smile to my face. He could then tour the world with Metallica and AC/DC

isn't there a difference between a full out "rock" album and a "rock n roll" album?
considering it's prince i think he'd dub "turn me loose" as rock n roll and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Rock album....what?!?!?!?!? Not another C & D album... Has Prince ever been sucessful with any of his rock stuff...I'm asking? The biggest albums or award winning have been the R&B Prince. JMO...I love the R&B.... Prime aka The Kid

No wishing for Prince’s Turn Me Loose on I-Tunes…or on any format for that matter! Turn Me Loose was just a leak. The DJ got the cut from Prince’s studio after begging for it after just one listen! He promised not to play it on air, then couldn’t resist. Sheesh... OK, so we're supposed to believe Prince's people are so incompetent that they hand an exclusive song to a DJ and expect him to NOT play it on the air? purplecam said: The song is not included on any cd and was recorded for posterity’s sake and placed in the vault.
Hey kids, remember how Prince promised that he'd release fresh recordings straight form the studio once he got out of WB's claws? How's that working out for you? purplecam said: Edna Gundersen, on the other hand, heard several tracks from an all-out rock and roll album that Prince just completed.
So, of all the people to preview an album to, he chose someone who'll give a 5 star rating to Prince farting in a bucket. Ghee, I wonder why? purplecam said: It’s being mastered as we speak. No release date is being planned for the collection at this time.
Translation: psyche! (But Prince's celeb friends will get a free copy the next time they visit one of his parties, of course.) purplecam said: Also in the works is a project with Tal Wilkenfeld & Michael B. providing the music for Shelby J’s debut cd.
And it will suck big time, mark my words. © Bart Van Hemelen

Well I liked "Turn Me Loose", but I am excited 2 see/hear what exactly gets released.
That 3 album rumour (posted on Dr. Funkenberry's site) sounded ferocious. I REALLY hope the songs mentioned in that other (legitimate) USA Today article R released... "Boom", "4ever", "Dreamer", and "The Divine". Whatever he decides 2 release, I hope it IS on vinyl, and at least 2 records. As far as it being a "full on rock" album, I'm down with that... even being as funky as I am. I usually dig the way Prince rolls out the Rock. I guess we all have 2 just wait and see/hear. At least there's now some light in the darkness before the Dawn. Peace. ~G [Edited 10/6/08 6:21am] "He's a musician's musician..."

"Boom, yeah, we can rock like that. yeah. Boom. Yeah" But I can't get too excited about interviews with Prince, when he's hyping up new songs, I still remember the Rolling Stone interview where he was praising "Schoolyard" and "Graffiti Bridge".

Yeah you're right, Purple Rain was such a failure ! It wasn't a rock-oriented album. It was a pop-oriented album. Same for 1999. C&D and Dirty Mind are considered his rock-oriented albums. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

A new rock album sounds fun. Prince has been loving the guitar these last few years and I would love to see how his rock has evolved since Chaos and Disorder. I particularly hope that he had the good sense to put Michael B on drums...

I'll make sure Kim Gordon is informed of this, after all she's only been playing bass in Sonic Youth for 27 years. And Kim Deal started playing with the Pixies a mere 22 years ago. (There isn't an alt rock fan around who doesn't know about "the two Kims".) And I'll also inform Melissa Auf der Maur. And Lori Black. And Gail Ann Dorsey. And Jennifer Finch. And D'arcy Wretzky. And Michael Steele. And Tina Weymouth. And Aimee Mann. And Meshell Ndegeocello. Linn4days said: An artist like Prince should know how important it is to find brothers who can play bass..
Racist AND sexist at the same time: congrats. Linn4days said: There are about a million brothers who would jump through a rough
"jump through a rough"? Do you mean jump through HOOPS? Linn4days said: How can one have champion all of these great funk and soul bands with brothers playing real instruments during Musicology, and go get a girl?
How can you grow up listening to Prince and spout such racist and sexist garbage? Here's a clue: take a look at the line-up of Sly & The Family Stone, arguably one of the most important funk bands ever. Linn4days said: Brothers built funk, jazz, and rock.
Yeah, let's ignore bands like Booker T. and the MGs, or the Benny Goodman Trio. Oh, and you obviously don't know that integrated jazz bands had existed all through the 1940s and 1950s, times when jazz would be considered "popular" music. © Bart Van Hemelen
