the man is always saying how he is not played on the radio anymore...however I hear him on mine on a regular basis.

where do u live and what Prince do u hear on your radio?

in the Washington DC area I hear:

Do me baby

little red corvette
the beautiful ones
last december
purple rain
how come u dont call me...anymore
she loves me for me
1999

and one of the stations here plays a lil clip for the morning program..."get off"...instead of "get off" they say..."get up" in the same beat of get off.

He's talking about his more recent music.

Some radio stations in specific regions of the country are more hip to what's going on outside of the major label music world and/or what's not being pushed hard by the majors, and will be opened-minded enough to sometimes feature a couple of newer songs. But in general people of Prince's age aren't usually given the same amount of airplay with newer material on mainstream radio. It seems East Coast radio is less stringent in this area than West Coast radio. Don't know about the South or Midwest. But in general radio just isn't what it once was.

I NEVER hear his music, including his hits. The last Prince song I heard on our radio was in the summer. It was Let's Go Crazy on a rock station which has a pre-programmed, deejay-less Saturday evening called "Saturday Night Retro". They play nothing but 80s rock.

aint that the truth...i remember back in the 70s each DJ had their different style, and certian music they played...now there is like only one radio station i listen to, and that is the quiet storm WHUR (old R&B)...the rest are all just the same, playing the same songs and types of songs over n over again...disbelief

A little story:

Marius Mueller-Westerhagen (german musician, quite good) was on a german radio show a couple of weeks ago and was interviewed by two djs. He suddenly asked if he could pose a question to the djs. He then said that he came from a time when djs actually played their music, when they would hear a good record they just put it on rotation. So he asked how they handle the situation with the playlists and that they could not play what they want. Silence. Then they said that sometimes when they have a bad day they put on some rock but basically they didn't answer this at all.

I thought it was kind of cool to hear the truth about radio on the radio!

In Toronto all I ever hear is purple rain, little red corvette, 1999 and once in a while, let's go crazy. That's it. I haven't heard a recent Prince song on Toronto radio in years. But, that's ok with me because I hardly listen to the radio anyway. It sucks so bad. I probably hear the radio for no more than 1 hour a week which suites me fine. Why would anyone want to hear the same pop tunes over and over again???

DETROIT checkin' in...Prince is played on 90.9 WDTR and on WGPR. 90.9 is an old school radio station that bumps in the A.M. and afternoon. WGPR is a jazzy, R & B station that has played "Muse 2 the Pharoah" and "She Loves Me 4 Me" quite often. Also, 92.3 plays him...We love him here woot!

i live in the north of England.you may hear local radio play kiss, 1999, when doves cry and Purple Rain (single edit) but that's about it.National radio? forget it.never.

BTW, that PR edit pisses me off.they can play shit like Bohemian Rhapsody in full, why not Purple Rain?

omfg shocked
I wish I could get "wasted kisses" "last december" "she loves me for me" or even "how come you don't call me anymore" I'm in NH...Mostly listen to Boston radio stations...and all we ever get is:
let's go crazy (usually totally chopped down too)
When doves cry
purple rain...but even that is rare
1999
raspberry beret
sometimes on the disco channel you can get:
I wanna be your lover
uptown
but that's about it...not even other hits like:
get off
cream
I could never take the place of you man
delirious
sign o the times
U got the look
party man
7
the most beautiful girl in the world (I hear this once in a great while)
why is that?
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

The guy completely HOGS up my CD player in:
1) The Car
2) The Hi-Fi
3) The Computer
4) The Mini-Disc Player

So, I am glad he isn't hogging the radio...
It leaves me to be free to listen to those magnificent performers like Eminem, S Club and of course, Blue...

That's the biggest reason there. DJ's, who were every bit as intense music lovers as the most serious fans, have been cut out of the equation in terms of their individuality. Most DJ's had a pipeline to their communities and what their community could really get excited about. In some cases you could call up a DJ and rap with him/her on the air about a lot of things going on in your life and his/hers...and that bond was kept together by the music the jockey thought was fresh. Radio is less personal now, more corporate than ever before. Monopolies like Clear Channel have cut the human element out of the equation and disallowed DJ's any sort of individuality to connect with their community of listeners - that ALWAYS included requests and whatever the DJ deemed groundbreaking. There was always some cookie-cutter crap on the radio, but it's not like it always outnumbered the quality. Now it does.

There used to be an 80's station and they constantly played Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Kiss, You Got the Look and Purple Rain. Now it's a hard rock station and I never hear Prince on the radio!

Oh, and 1999.... duh

i live in Philly and NEVER hear new Prince on pop radio. The only songs that get any play are 1999, Purple Rain, When Dove's Cry, and Little Red Corvette...on the very rare occasion (like once a year or something equally ridiculous) you'll hear U Got the Look or I Wanna Be Ur Lover. I haven't heard a new song on pop/r&b radio since TMBGITW was new. However, the local commercial-free radio, WXPN, plays all his stuff from the first record right up to TRC!

I LIVE IN AN AREA THAT HAS A SO-CALLED-R&B STATION THAT'S REALLY WACK. THEIR IDEA OF QUALITY R&B MUSIC IS ASHITI AND JA RULE (YEAH RIGHT). PORTLAND OREGON DOESN'T HAVE THE FIRST CLUE OF WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS. THOSE WHO GET PRINCE PLAYED ON THEIR LOCAL STATIONS ARE VERY LUCKY. LIKE SOMEONE ALREADY SAID BEFORE, YOU MIGHT HEAR HIM ON THE 80'S STATION.

HEY RADIO PEOPLE-PRINCE HAS HAD A HIT SINCE THE 80'S!
