PRINCE & TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY Is it true that Prince and Terence Trent D'arby recorded some stuff together in the late 80's/ early 90's? Anybody ever hear those recordings? TTD was fantastic then and still is. He's also changed his name and releases his stuff over the net. “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

I actually think Terence's "symphony or damn " and "vibrator" were excellent albums ... better than anything prince has done since that time ... (although terence doesnt seem to be as prolific)... I have "Vibrator" in my cd changer now ... whats the "newer " terence/sananda albums sound like!!??

As far as eye'm concerned, TTD is a pure genius, albums like "Neither Fish Nor Flesh" or "Symphony Or Damn" R mastepieces. Still, eye know he & P have a lotta respect 4 each other, but eye never heard about'em recordin' 2gether. Probably another stoopid rumour...

His last album was "Wild Card' and it is indredible. It's nearly as good as 'symphony or damn' and better than Vibrator. I can't wait to hear reports on his shows tonight. Ronny

Terence is a poor man's Prince. Always was, always will be. Well he rocked my "poor" ass on the Vibrator tour back when.. "Climb in my fur."

TTD is an amazing musician and writes even more amazing lyrics.
I wish he was as prolific as Prince. The lyrics on Vibrator, Wildcard, Symphony or Damn, Neither Fish Nor Flesh, etc are eons more profound and beautiful than practically anything P has written in the past 10 years. I enjoy his underground status, and I wonder if TTD does to. It keeps his music pure.

Especially on Neither Fish Nor Flesh.

TTD also issued some interesting B-sides. Like "Elevators and Hearts" the flip B- side of "Wishing Well"single.
But my favorite B-side by him is "Greasy Chicken" which is on the flip side of "Sign Your Name" 45 r.p.m.single. This track which was recorded at one of TTD's live shows is superb.

THE INFAMOUS PRINCE / TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY PERFORMANCE
For years now a story has floated about of a rare and extremely exclusive performance that took place at Prince's Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota just outside of Minneapolis. I asked a friend online that had been lingering about in Prince's inner sanctum while employed at his N.P.G. shop (boutique) in MPLS around this time...and he agreed to give me his account of what occurred that night. Finally, I present to you the first-hand account of the events during the now infamous early morning jam: Um lemme see here...I got into the party after the Diamonds & Pearls show at Glam Slam...I saw Carmen [Electra] for the first time there and LOVED her...Until she started doing those WAY over dramatic "hip hop" stupid dances she does.. Anyway.. I was hangin' out and Prince is there and I'm expecting that, so I'm cool...But then...I turn and WHAM! TTD is standing RIGHT THERE!!! Not saying a word to anyone if I remember correctly...He stays there for the rest of the time and then a bit later Prince starts playing in Studio C...I go in, and I see TTD after a little while come up and snag a guitar...Strums some sour notes, and P looks at him like "GET OUT!!!" TTD looks at P and just like a child kinda puts his head down and walks through a door behind them...The band played on the floor in Studio C which is actually like a VERY, VERY small rehearsal studio with mirrors all around the walls...I believe the door leads to the hall outside in Studio B... That was the last I saw of TTD until he played First Avenue [night club] in 1995 (I think it was)...P had a special Love 4 One Another show after the gig and TTD didn't show up 'till the show ended...We all had to wait and stand still while TTD walked up the stairs with his band...Never said 'hi' or anything to the people who were giving him props for the show that night... - by "T" Terence Trent D'Arby Discussion Site: http://groups.yahoo.com/g...rentdarby/

Prince got to record in Jimi Hendricks old studio in England the "Electric Lady" as a belated "Christmas" Present
Mr.Hendricks father opened the place up it had been shut down for years. A lot of people dropped by to Jam.(Jan 1984) TTD was one of them. He had a concert at Whimbley that month also. You will probably never hear none of that stuff. But Never say Never. sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

Just got back from seeing TTD in Paradiso. I was kinda dissapointed. First of all, the sound/mix was terrible, which made it a lot harder to enjoy the show. Second, it was short (1,5 hours). Third, the band was very 'average' (I'm being nice here). No horns, no backing vocals, no improvs. No "two times uh uh". Terence does not interact much with the crowd. Oh well, maybe I've been spoiled with all the Prince concerts lately. TTD still has a great voice and he has a lot of 'presence'. He deserves a better band and better sound. [This message was edited Wed Nov 20 16:36:18 PST 2002 by LeRoy] Even at his peak, he had the most awful band. Go get the Hardline Live video. Bunch of geeky cats with no vibe or skills and the backing vocalist pair could only be there for laughs. From what I saw of a live webcast of a show last year his band and backing vox were even worse. Now apparently he has four piece Italian band who are even worse. Makes you wonder about TTD himself if he thinks these musicians are good...

Well not sure if they ever recorded 2gether but in the late 80's a friend of mine from europe mentionned seing them 2gether at a club in paris sitting and chatting 4 a little while, so I think at the time they must've been in relatively good terms...
Just my 2 cents... peace

Believe me or not, I had a chance to talk for 5 minutes to TTD back in the summer of 1995 (he was in Italy for a TV program called "Festivalbar").
Sure enough I asked him if he ever recorded something with Prince. His answer more or less was: "Yeah, we have done some stuff, but it won't be released until we are dead..." Now, if that is true I have no clue, but that is what I recall. nick PS. And by the way, his actual band is italian and unfortunately it is average. He is still great though.

Seriously, he needs to get him to the Celebration, let him feel what it's like w/ a REAL BAND!! Oh, and for the record TTD is GREAT

[This message was edited Wed Nov 20 16:36:18 PST 2002 by LeRoy] Yesterday I also went to Paradiso to see Sananda Maitreya, and I totally agrea with you. He has a very (!!!) average band, the sound wasn´t good and he had a very short setlist. But I think I'm really spoiled after three ONA shows. I had a great time though, he played a lot of "old" songs and also a lot of songs from his later work. He is a real good entertainer and a great musician. Here is the setlist (it´s not in order of playing) I´m sorry but I´m missing some songs, can´t remeber wich ones: -Wishing Well -Dance Little Sister -Sign Your Name -I'll Never Turn My Back -Delicate -Let her down easy (wow!!) -Supermodel Sandwich -Jumping Jack Flash -Holding On To You (breath taking...) -O Divina -My Darkplaces -What Shall I do? -Testify To repeat myself...I had a great time!!! It was nice to see a lot of formiliar faces from the ONA shows and some fellow orgers. For the Dutch fans, you can see Sananda tonight as he is playing in the late night show, Barend en van Dorp. Have fun. --------------------------------------------------
