Should Prince Sign With A Record Company (again)?

Based on the current topics posted on Prince org, I felt interested 2 know what the famz think; should Prince sign with a record company & release music in stores like in the past?

Would it be better 4 both parties (him & the famz)?

Curious 2 hear ur heartfelt thoughts on the subject. I realise it might be the last thing he'd ever do again, but would it be best?

Thanks & peace & love as always*

I think he has accomplished enough in his career to go it alone these days, though I did like the deal he had with Arista for Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic - Just one album at a time, none of this 10 albums, 10 tours, 20 singles shit that artists are signing up for these days (the good ones anyway).

As much as we all like bitching about the lyrics on TRC or the price of ONA Live, the fact is, that without his own label, these masterpieces would not be released on Warner Bros or any other major label. On the other hand, with a major label, you can promote an album so much more. Imagine how many copies of TRC would have been sold if it was released on Warner Bros?

Prince isn't an indie folk artist or anything like that. He's a pop star plain and simple. He whines about the industry and whines about not being on the radio nonstop; because he wishes he was.

Look at the thousands of indie artists out there who release their work independently. Their actions speak for themselves.

he could possibly do both.Sign to a major and save his more experimental stuff for the club only.

just a thought.

At this point,I don't think it would be a good idea for Prince to sign with a major. For one thing,it would be next to impossible for him to develop a great working relationship with any company. He has spent almost ten years dissing the majors, and talking shit about the industry in general. There's no turning back now.

Furthermore,I think the labels themselves would be afraid to work with him.He has burned alot of bridges.

abso-freakin'-loutely not.
keep the music outta the record execs hands.
who'd'ya think woulda let him release an album of piano demos + a double live CD + a live CD of aftershow performances, much of which is culled from a record (TRC), barely a year old, that only sold about 125,000 copies, all in the same year?

I'm sorry to say it but no well managed record company would ever sign with him after the way he blew it with Clive Davis/Artista

It was a gamble for Clive, he went out on a limb and in the end got burnt for trusting prince to follow through with the project. It was a discussed-to-death lesson for both of them and I wish them both luck in the future.
