21 nights surprise sellout

I pre ordered 21 nights from Amazon.co.uk when it was announced. Today I got an email that said:

We're still trying to obtain the following item[s] you ordered on 18 April 2008, 12:54 MEST (Order# 026-5204681-0158731).

Prince (Author) "21 Nights"

So I contacted Amazon and told them the book was supposed to be released september 30th and asked what was up. They responded with this email:

Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.

Firstly, Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience, but "21 Nights" appears to have been a surprise sellout.

When you placed your order #026-5204681-0158731, we believed we had access to more copies - we then discovered that every one of our distributors had rapidly sold out.

Major distributors have thousands of copies on order from the publisher, all apparently awaiting the next print run. As soon as more copies become available, we'll be able to dispatch them to our customers.

When your order is ready to be dispatched, we will send you an e-mail message to confirm the date, contents and method of delivery.

However, as this was not what you expected when you placed your order, we would understand if you'd prefer to cancel it. You may cancel any undispatched items yourself by clicking on Your Account at the top of any page of our website and selecting the link that says "Cancel items or orders". After signing in with your e-mail address and password, you will be able to cancel this item from your order.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

So it looks like I won't be getting a first edition.

I ordered mine on the 18th April also, and at the moment Amazon.co.uk says:
Dispatch estimate: 2 Oct 2008
Delivery estimate: 7 Oct 2008 - 13 Oct 2008

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Oh no! I pre-ordered months ago, but I cancelled it yesterday and re-ordered to add something else to the batch to get the free delivery. The other item has dispatched but the book is saying estimate 8th October. No e-mail yet. I hope by cancelling I haven't just put myself to the back of the queue.

i must admit im pretty peed off about this. amazon must have known how many pre-orders they had and its very poor that they didnt order in the correct quantity for those original sales.

I also ordered back in april and am still waiting with the site saying not despatched estimated 7-13th oct.

As a pre-order i should have had a first edition, and not kept waiting.

Has ANYONE been despatched one from amazon.eu or .co.uk?

sounds like BS to me, more likely not enough were made for the whole of europe and just a few despatched to each and every store to part fulfill their orders.

I thought there was supposed to be a launch nite for this on 3rd, in london, its pretty poor to not have supplied even london with enough copies.

Also why do some stores have copies but not amazon when it was originally launched through just amazon, they had first dibs on it and the chance to get forward orders unlike the regular bookstores and yet they havent even fulfilled those.

Im not happy! sad

Yup, it's the same here. I get a "We'll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date".
I'll pop into Borders and Waterstones, etc. over the weekend to see if it's out there.

Looks like mine will be sent tomorrow now. Been out but when I got back in I had another look and saw that they'd tried to take payment and it had failed. I ordered it so long ago that I had used my old card and had to edit the details for the new one. They don't take payment until an order is ready to go, so hopefully some of you will also be getting your orders despatched tomorrow, if not they even might have been sent this evening.
RIP sad

Mines now preparing for despatch and can't be cancelled. If I didn't order so long ago that my card expired, I'd probably have had it today. Oh well, at least it's now in the system. smile

I had an email yesterday morning saying they didnt know when they'd have book did I want to cancel but then got another email last night saying I should have it between 3 - 7 October.

I almost got it from Borders yesterday afternoon (for £30) so I may as well hang on a couple more days and have it for half that price.
