Who is the better giutar player? Jimi Hendrix or Prince. They're both funky, both can play blues and rock and both are visionaries in their playing. It's a HARD call. I know we're all HUGE Prince fans here including myself but if I picked I would have to say Jimi on this. Every giutar lick or solo Prince ever performed (that I've heard, and I've heard alot, Live and recorded, like we all have,) Jimi Hendrix has one to match it or is better. I like Prince better as an artist, no doubt about that, but I'm not bias about my decision. Just because I like Prince better doesn't mean that he's the better guitar player. Jimi Hendrix singlehandedly redefined guitar playing as we know it today.

Jimi hendrix influnced any quitarist 2 come after him. Plus Jimi played that instrument left handed as well

Jimi is the Master However i would not say he's better .. Prince is equally as good ...

I think Prince was influenced by Jimi's playing and overall look (compare Jimi's look to Prince's "Purple Rain"-era look). Jimi only had about a 3-year career as a solo artist (or at least as a front-man if you him leading the Experience and Band of Gypsys). Prince has had a 30+ year career and has gone through different styles and working with different musicians.

Prince's guitar tone reminds me of Jimi (and Santana), and some of his stage moves, too.

I'm a huge fan of both, and I think each was innovative, but in different times.

I won't go into how much Hendrix influenced Prince as a guitarist or how much Jimi influenced P's image because that is blatantly obvious. I just hope that this doesn't turn into a "Let's bash the hell out of Hendrix" thread. If people favor Prince as a guitarist over Hendrix,...then that's fine. But the hate that's spewed forth towards Hendrix...it's like some folks truly resent Jimi because Prince gets compared to Hendrix. Like THAT'S Hendrix's fault. Most of that was Prince's own doing.

Just when we're getting over the beat-to-death prince vs. jesse threads, arguably the mother of all "prince vs." thread appears. Hell, in a few weeks I'll Start a Prince Vs. MJ thread to complete the cycle But the OP is new so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. That said, like BG pretty much already said, this is pointless in here. You'll get a few unbiased answers, all which will most likely mention it doesnt matter who's better, they're both great. Then you'll get some who will say at guitar Jimi; but at music in general Prince (even though that has nothing to do with the thread, just trying to make themselves feel better). But the majority will be a bunch of biased Prince fans who probably dont know a thing about Hendrix or guitar playing for that matter.
