I had anwserd this question before. As a guitar player(been playing for 23 years) i prefer Princes aprouch on the instrument, thats my taste but no way hes better than Jimi.Jimmi influenced a huge numbers of guitarplayers all over the world, his parts are harder to play then Prince and he changed the way guitar history,Prince didnt. You have to not understand about the instrument to chose Prince as a better guitar player than Jimmi.Pic guitar players such as Joe Satriani and Steve vai, they played Jimmi stuff in live shows but didnt sound any near good as the original, and they all great players.
And to end this, is good to remember that Jimmi did moust of his great tracks whit an simple distortion and a wha wha pedal, and moust of the guitar player of ours days uses huge digital racks efects and a lot of pedals combine(Prince included-he use to play whit digital racks as whe see in Guitar World interwiw whith him and his guitar thechnician, although naw its semms hes just using moust of the time boss pedals).
LOve Prince style, but Jimmi is better.

It was Eddie Van Halen. Although the rest of the song was played by someone far better although maybe not so distinct.

Whatever broham. I thought he was talking about this thread. And no ones getting defensive, so take a pill. And I don't NEED to learn shit! So, you can just talk to the hand.

Who is this "he"? You quoted me on a misunderstanding confused
And you're right, you dont NEED to learn anything, but you might want to know to simple things like "bringing this thread back from the dead" so you dont run into this again wink

P.S. so you're not defensive and dont need to learn shit, you forgot to address this...

By the way, there's a Prince Vs. Michael Jackson dancing thread in here too and members are responding to it like crazy. I could have just as well put that thread up here too because I know someone in here has probably put that same thread in here before you were a member too.
ok...and what does that have to do with replying on month old threads?

Give me a break, Jimi is still the greatest ever. Not only did Jimi create heavy metal but he created Jazz fusion

Steve Lukather was the session guitarist for Beat It (now he rips Jimi and Prince apart in my book) and Slash played with Jackson when he performed it live a couple of years ago. It was still Eddie who played the original solo though.

I know this doesn't matter to you but it's Jimi not Jimmi or Jimmy.

I thought that. I also think Prince is often very sloppy too.

sorry but you don't know what you're talking about. Jimi Hendrix controlled more feedback than any guitarist, it isn't even close. the next closest in terms of feedback control is Jeff Beck, and he isn't even that close. now to your post...
when you feedback in mind, sloppy is what its supposed to be,
you can't really play staccato when you're using feedback. Prince, has never attempted to control feedback.

Jimi was a very fluid player, just watch him play acoustic on youtube, that says it all.

also, Jimi Hendrix played 3 melodies on the guitar; rhythm and lead, at the same time, with an overtone of thumb-fretted bass notes. this, while doing vocals.

now, many guitarists, even Prince, have used their thumb for the occasional Low E string muting...but Hendrix took it many steps further

he fretted CHORDS with his thumb. I don't if you guys realize that gives you TOTAL freedom for melodies. that, is what made Hendrix able to play rhythm/lead simultaneously. usually when you're band has one guitarist, he plays power chords, but Jimi was quite different.

lastly, Prince has been caught stealing from Hendrix. listen to the solo in Lets Go Crazy. then, watch Hendrix cover Johnny B Goode, and listen to the solo at the end.

it is no competition, at ALL far as guitar goes. the only aspect Prince has Jimi beat in is voice. Jimi let his guitar do the singing anyway, like he was one with it.

Many people are ignorant of that fact: Jimi was born with an advantage over most other guitarists: thumbs that enabled him to do just what you describe.

An awesome player. nod

Jimi was a better player but I like Prince more. Pretty simple in my book.
