everybody listens out for different things, and although Prince is an eclectic artist that crosses genres many of his fans are still drawn to there personal favorite genre when it comes to Prince, some people want to hear him rock out more some people prefer the R&B side some people want him to rap ( just kidding ) I guess this topic is inspired after I read the turn me loose so bad P should retire thread ( which I haven't heard the track yet so I can't comment ). It got me to thinking we all know what we don't like and many of us make it clear, but I am curious as to what you guys WOULD want Prince to do. Or when you imagine what a new Prince album should sound like, waht do you hear? If it can be described.

Tracks like When Doves Cry and the era when he was considered to be in his prime were innovative and we can't go back, I kind of feel like P has an impossibly high standard over his head to beat himself. I think I personally would want to hear more tracks recorded raw, captured live like the Purple Rain or The Undertaker, or maybe even less polished tracks right from the demo form like the Dirty Mind days, maybe a little under produced like Tick Tick Bang (original version). I also miss longer albums, I think becuase so much stuff leaks out online it is compelling Prince to realse shorter albums.

Firstly I would like to say that I feel very simillar to you regarding Prince's ouput of music.

He can never recreate the Purple Rain era or, the rawness of the Dirty Mind era, or the length and breadth of the Sign of the Times era. If that makes sense!

I want him 2 sound like Prince

I want him to sound like what it's like when he performs live.

I guess what I want is pretty specific:

-A drummachine, not those generic NPS/High, Kirky J kinda drumloops, but a sparse simple, but grooving beat, nicely syncopated. Like Housequake.
-A real bass. Like Rhonda.
-A crisp, rhythm guitar, on the high end, like only Prince can do. Like What The Fuss on Stevie's new album.
-Real piano, no synthesized, keyboardy sounding thing. Playing chords, with a little melody every now and then between progressions. Like Power Fantastic.
-Hornheads. Supportive throughout the song, maybe taking the lead at the outro, going wild. Like Billy Jack Bitch.
-Lyrics that are telling a story. Beginning, middle, end. Like Another Lonely Christmas. Or lyrics that are burning charisma, like Moviestar.

You got that?

Maybe its cause its more nostalgic for me, cause it reminds me of being in gradeschool and seeing Prince in high heels for the first time. I dunno lol
