It's just so lyrically pedestrian. Before any of you makes a straw man out of me, let me clarify that I don't expect Prince to be as lyrically deep as Tool, nor do I hold it against him that he is sexual in a strictly mature way and fervently spiritual.
What bothers me is that none of the lyrics throughout Planet Earth are playful or imaginative. They're as banal as can be in their straightforwardness. It makes the album feel like a very bland experience. The sole exception to this, I would say, is Guitar. At least it has some classic Prince charms in it, even if the music set to it isn't amongst his most memorable hooks. talon said: Music is an art form, I think "Different Strokes 4 Different Folks" thingy applies. I personally liked Planet Earth but surely 4 different reasons then most here, music is liked or disliked based on wether or not u have anything in common with said music, in this case Planet Earth. There where a couple of catchy grooves on there but 4 me it's mostly the tunes that never make the radio rotation that capture my attention. See 4 me that's where u find Prince's genius, making radio friendly tunes are easy these day's so imagine how easy it is 4 Prince. Well I'm to tired to write a novel on the subject so basically I'm saying, enjoy what u enjoy and never expect people 2 enjoy all of the same mus as u, the love 4 mus is a personal thing.

It's an okay album. I like it. I can't return it, I lost the receipt. I can;t give it away, all my friends bought it with me the day it dropped.
I like it. Mr. Goodnight is my song. "Make you throw your head back and holler..." I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me. Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots. Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol. Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol. Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

I Love these songs from the album >
Guitar Somewhere Here On Earth The One U Wanna C Future Baby Mama Chelsea Rodgers The rest are ok, But I Think Mr Goodnight is just plain terrible and because I dislike that song so much that album loses alot of points Everybody's looking 4 the ladder

it's my fav song on the album Without a doubt, my fav too....way too short though Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Not really.
I listen to Chelsea Rogers now and then, and Future Baby Mama, and Resolution... but that's about it. Like Musicology, I found it a prince-by-the-numbers 'we've heard it all before' kind of album...uninspired.

It's a great record, and IMO it's getting back on track after the disappointing Musicology and 3121. You find a lot of people who didn't like PE like Musicology/3121. Generalising of course. I think some people didn't like it because it wasn't promoted in the USA like the preceeding two albums were. Maybe they'll come back to it in time and realise what a great little record it is, much like people are doing with C&D and Come now. Co-sign. I was really shocked to see the hate garnered against Planet Earth in comparison to the previous albums.... especially a lot of the hardcore fans of his music. I definitely think it's the most well rounded of the 3 albums. Musicology sounded like a "Hey, I'm still here record". 3121 sounded like a "Hey, I can still keep up with the kids, see this autotune? record". Planet Earth sounds like he was being himself again in a 50-year-old man context.

Like someone else said, different strokes for different folks. I do believe that people will come back to this album in a few years and realize it was unfairly shitted on.

I don't hate it: it's a Prince album and I'm gonna get his stuff no matter what. I had a leaked copy and an official copy which I gave away. The only track I dig off it right now is Chelsea Rodgers. It sounds great in the club. I haven't listened to the album in over a year but, maybe like NPS, I'll come to appreciate some of the music later.

I like it. It's not his greatest but it's not his worst either. It's a simple pop album, no more or less. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I liked the CD shows a certain "human" side to Prince.

PE is a great CD and I listen to it often
Best tracks FBM (a classic), PE (one of his better openers that sets a great tone), SHOE (amazing!!), The 1 U Wanna C (should have been released to radio) Love it! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
Remember there is only one destination and that place is U All of it. Everything. Is U.
