I'd like to agree with you on this one, but I don't know if I can.
I mean, is it really a defining moment of pop culture?
It was massive for a year, but is not remembered/revered today like say, Sgt Pepper or Thriller.
Not saying it shuldn't be, I just don't think it is

Well we do a 80's and early 90's retro show
on friday nights and I feel I could play ANY SONG off
that cd,ask even the casual to mild Prince fan and that's
probably the one cd they could name more than 2 or 3 tunes
from, let's put it this way for it's time it's a defining
pop culture moment.
Haven't half the acts in (so called) R&B today been coping Prince's shit for years? Is the story line to 8Mile
not similar and influnced by PR just with a much better
director?

Here in Detroit, you'll rarely hear Prince on the radio. It's dominated by Top 40.

They occasionally play Little Red Corvette, I Would Die For You, Erotic City, or Kiss.

Tron, back me up here . . .

Unfortunately, the only Prince tunes that I hear on regular radio are When Doves Cry, Raspberry Beret etc.

The only other times that I hear Prince on the radio is when I play him on my show. I try to play at least 3 or 4 Prince tracks during my 2 hour show, and I try to play unheard album cuts and new stuff constantly. Its a college radio station, so the range isn't that great, but hey, its something.
