i am creating 2 prince albums for a mate....

I am creating two prince albums for a mate. As he puts it, 'i want one of his classic 80's stuff then a different one of later music of your choice.'

So with terms to the 80's music i have come up with all the hits.
And we all know what they are i have chucked in a couple of B-sides too. Like Erotic City and She's always in my hair.

But when it comes to 92 onwards i want to make sure i get a good mix. So i obviously own and have all the songs from then on now but would like to know your opinions on say a track listing charting his highest of the highs from 92 to the present day.

What do you all think?

These lists always take a little while to compose, I do them on paper first...I'll get back 2 ya.

I always appreciate the DJ in a person. Not the music theif though. cool

well thats a pretty long period to cover in one cd 16 prince years is a lot of music

personally i would hav extended the hits cd to include everything up 2 the most beautiful girl in the world.

he had quite a few big hits in the 91-94 period. 7, My name is Prince, Sexy MF and TMBGITW were all top tens.

On the 2nd cd i would include

Endorphinmachine
Dolphin
Somebodys Somebody
The Holy River
Dont Play Me
Interactive
Come On
The One
Beautiful Strange
Prettyman
The Everlasting Now
Last December
Musicology
Call my Name
Cinnamon Girl
3121
Te amo corazon
Black Sweat
Planet Earth
Chelsea Rodgers

Im just touching on the obvious stuff.. their is shit loads more so you might need to make it a 3 or 4 album set lol.

yeah i mean it always give me such a headache trying to knock together a short prince list i mean on my ipod i have a ridiculous amount of prince songs. But transferring my favourites to CD is different to others. And you are right about the amount of hits and great songs he has had. If this for like Michael Jackson you could fit all the songs on 1 CD easily. But with prince there is so much and so much variety its very difficult.

I am trying to get to go through all different styles and everything. I want a complete strong set for him to have.

I was browsing this forum, as there was someone who made a thread about a The Hits-like album from 1993 until now. I will post the link if I find it.

I wouldn't bother with a post-93 singles collection, the best stuff certainly isn't represented there.

My take on a post-'93 15 track best of:

1. Interactive
2. Endorphinmachine
3. I Like It There
4. Calhoun Square
5. Papa
6. All The Midnights In The World
7. New World
8. 319
9. Dreamin' About U
10. Come On
11. Chealsea Rodgers
12. She Loves Me 4 Me
13. Empty Room (C-Note Version)
14. The Everlasting Now
15. Young & Beautiful

With Prince, it's all about variety , so my picks below doesn't necessarily represent a mix of my favorite post-92 music, but stuff I think would work for the specific purposes of your thread.

1. Interactive
2. Endorphine Machine
3. shhhh
4. 1+1+1=3
5. The One
6. I like it There
7. Pretty Man
8. The Greatest Romance...
9. The Holy River
10. New World
12. Loose
13. F.U.N.K

Collection with 20 great songs from 1992-2007 with two factors in mind. That they might have wide appeal and that I like them even though all are not my absolute favorites. The kind of collection I would give to a curious friend.

Sexy Mother Fucker (edgy, original)
Damn U (sophisticated, elegant)
Space (seductive, original)
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (major hit, beautiful)
I Hate U (hit, great melody and original last part)
The Same December (catchy rock)
Jam Of The Year (great party song, infectious)
Face Down (funky rap)
The Love We Make (among strongest 90s ballads)
Acknowledge Me (funky, great rap segment)
Good Love (one of his strongest party songs ever)
She Gave Her Angels (sophisticated, smooth, romantic)
The Other Side Of The Pillow (great acoustic guitar song)
So Far, So Pleased (simple yet effective rock)
She Loves Me 4 Me (original, romantic)
Reflection (beautiful, heartfelt)
Lolita (really funky)
Black Sweat (edgy, original, fresh-sounding Prince)
The One U Wanna C (simple yet effective rock)
Future Baby Mama (sophisticated, smooth)
