First, of all I am not talking about the past I am speaking of the present. If you take a good look at the music charts, we have very few talented female artist selling CD’s in large volumes.

I think Sheila E, Mavis, and Rosie are great talents but with the exception of Sheila E, you did not see people running out to buy any of t hose artist’s music.

As far as the other bimbos, they lacked the promotion that the bimbos of today have. I don’t see any difference between Vanity and Carmen from Ciera (My Goodies) and some new chick ( I do not know her name) who is strolling around in a new video with her boobs hanging out of her shirt.

Sex sells get over it. If P wants to stay in the game as a songwriter or producer he will have to work with some bimbos. Besides what male singer or group could work with him without punching him out.

Sex sells...really? I didn't know this. Prince has stayed in the game this long due to hard work and talent, not relying on bimbos. And although his marketing in those earlier days heavily relied on sex to get noticed, it wasn't a disguise for a lack of talent, which is what today's music scene is all about.

Rosie, Mavis & others of that cloak didn't succeed because they didn't receive heavy promotion from Prince and they wouldn't get it from record companies who had already made the determination that age and weight matter more than talent. Those artists started careers in an industry that cared about talent but as time passed, was only concerned about image. So long gone are the days where you could be like an Aretha Franklin and get noticed for your talent and not your looks. I get that. However, Prince walks around talking about real music for real musicians and yet he succumbs to the "sex and nothing else con" of the industry? It's a bit hypocritical.

Also, if his intent was to truly "stay in the game as a songwriter or producer" as you say, he wouldn't be putting out the same female Prince clones, he'd be writing music that sounded more like the mainstream pop, rap & R&B music and working with "artists" who are hot like Ne-Yo (a BIG Prince fan), Rhianna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Musiq and others who have been tremendously inspired by his music and would welcome any opportunity to work with him. I LOVE Prince's sound but it would be nice to see what he could do if he forgot his ego for once and collaborated with some folks with different sounds and musical ideas. Just seems like he's not interested unless it's a 100% Prince-controlled production with a chick who will allow him to control/guide her every move because no one else is interested in her "talent" but him.

Wow.....i randomly decided to check out the radio station's website and there it was....""Now Playing - Another Boy by Bria Valente".

I frantically clicked the online broadcast listen live button and managed to catch the last minute and a half or so of the song.

Well - I liked what I heard. It was quite blatantly a Prince production, with some good melodies and lyrics.

I have a feeling that if P himself had sang this and it was called "Another Girl", we would all be raving about it.

My opinion is that Prince has been wanting to release a female protege record for a while. After the whole Tamar fiasco, he's hoping that it will work out better with Bria. And I think it just might.

There are gifted people out there. At least in one way or another. They are born with it...something I don't think they even understand. So much so that they think they can "pass it on" to others and it doesn't work that way. Yes, Prince has knowledge he can share...yes he works hard.....None of us could grasp the way Prince sees things. All gifts are limited and a blessing. What's simple for them is impossible for the rest of us. There are gifted people everywhere though they see in completely different ways. I've seen one of the best athletes in history try to coach a team and fail miserably because of the very same thing. It's God's gift though it can't be shared. It's not talent. It's much more special than that....

Did I say that Prince needed to use sex to sell his music because he had no talent. No, I said sex is used to sell the music of his bimbo protégées. He has been doing for over 20 years and it has been going on in music since Edison invented the phonograph.

I am trying to figure out where you have been hiding over the last 20 years. When did P every work with established artist who do not really need his help? He is not going to allow himself to be produced by anyone and I think he pretty much said that back at the beginning of his career so stop waiting for something to happen that is not going to happen. In addition, you generate income from songwriting do you think P is gong to share credit with any of the artist you mentioned.
Controlling and guiding is exactly how you make money in the industry.

I NEVER said you did say this. If you weren't busy getting on the defensive, you would have seen that I was making a point that he doesn't need bimbos to make money or be successful.

"He did not succumb to anything he has been doing it the whole of his career. I have always felt he is referring to himself when he talks about “real musicians” He is stating I am the real deal and not even including any of his side projects."

Right I'm the real deal while my artists suck and don't make money much less good music.

"I am trying to figure out where you have been hiding over the last 20 years."

Obviously somewhere you haven't been.

"When did P every work with established artist who do not really need his help? I'm not waiting around for anything. Unlike many fans here, my world isn't going to be rocked to its core if Prince does/doesn't finally decide to collaborate with others. I was merely sharing my opinion on why I don't waste money/time on any of his side projects.

"You generate income from songwriting?" That's a laugh. You generate income from writing/producing good songs that sell. These songs don't sell. His signature sound works for him because it's something he established for himself throughout his career. It doesn't work for these new artists he's trying to develop because that sound doesn't fit into the current landscape of today's musical trends. "Controlling and guiding is exactly how you make money", right and Prince stands to make boat loads of it with Bria Valente...just like he made with Tamar, Carmen Elektra and Robin Power. Good job Prince. Give me a break!

I really don't get how you interpret "real music by real musicians" to mean that Prince is referring solely to himself. The whole point of Musicology - the identification of the instruments before and after the solos, calling Maceo "the teacher," repeating the line before and after covers - was about musicians, plural; not Prince alone. One of the lines in that song asks - "Don't you miss the feeling music gave you back in the day?" Is Bria going to give it to us, from what I heard, the answer is a resounding NO!

But I digress, he's not just talking about himself. Out in Vegas he made the comment that he wasn't mad at the DJs, but there are a lot of out-of-work musicians out there. So as others here have said, it is EXTREMELY disingenuous of Prince to highlight the plight of REAL musicians then throw a second-rate model turned singer in our faces and expect folks to give up their hard-earned coins in this awful economy to support that crap. It's actually crazy.

You talk about the image and sex selling with these proteges, but the majority of Prince's fanbase, undoubtedly the only place where you'll find people who will give a care about Bria Valente, is not a group of musical illiterates. He's been in the game for 30 years. His fans are older and have been exposed to real music. For the most part, they are not going to fall for the "pretty girl" who can barely hold a note but looks good in a baby doll dress package. Those girls are marketed toward younger, less discriminating music listeners/buyers. Yes, young pretty girls/boys sell records to other young girls and boys. That has existed since the beginning of time, but does that justify Prince going back to that dry well this late in the game - no it does not, at least to me it doesn't.

You respond as if the problem is that folks here are hating on the proteges. The fact is that they don't have any talent and most of us are too old and experienced to wet our pants over the prospect of Prince's latest conquest turned singer producing anything of note because history dictates otherwise. If they had some semblance of talent it would be another story, but they do not. So I choose not to waste my time.

clapping THANK YOU BELLA!!! It's so interesting that people are unwilling to call things as they are with Prince. We all LOVE the man and his music. However, considering his track record with these women, we can't do anything but expect more of the same mediocrity and from what I've heard, it IS more of the same mediocrity. If I was a serious artist, I would love to collaborate musically with Prince but I'd be leery about him writing and producing my entire project when you consider the success of his other protegees.

I have a hard time understanding why so many are getting angry and lashing out because Prince did music with a female artist???

What is so earth shattering and unsettling about that?? Prince is a man who does whatever he wants with whomever he wants, its seems to me you are all trying to convince him of something??? Maybe sway him one way or the other??

Controlling others actions and thoughts is out of the realm of possiblity with a smart unconventional business man like Prince. He needs artists that can be guided who are not bound in contract and free do be fully immersed into Prince world. Sounds like common sense to me.

Not everyone can sing a tune just because they are attractive, but Bria can actually sing so Prince took the time to cultivate her natural talent and expand on it with some genious production and musicianship! That is wonderful to me, and i will buy this music in a heartbeat to support this cause.

He can make anything succeed, he can innovate and bring changes in the music industry by making beautiful "good music" with whomever he chooses to make it with. Whether you back it or not. Relax enjoy new music or dont enjoy it but Its not worth geting upset about it either. Be happy soon Prince will release music sung by himself which im sure is the major thing everyone here will feel better about. Give Bria's project with Prince a chance. No stress just peace.

I think everyone is upset at the way the announcement was handled that's all. Even Dr. Funkenberry has edited his whole site to be more "fan friendly". He's the one that started this thread and look at the title....You won't find that title on his website anymore. I feel because he knows it's misleading.

Prince's love life will never be fake as long as there is an eternal passion burning in Gpd's palm for He and I. cool

Okay...Tora doesn't want to shift through 11 pages of hooping and hollering. Where can I hear this? Is it on rotation on 102.3?

I laughed when I read this, because yesterday I was thinking that with most of these "proteges" the album ends up being the parting gift. Usually the release of the album signals the end of Prince's dalliances with said proteges.

We rarely see a second Prince-produced album from these girls. It's like a year of rumor and semi-hype leading up to them. Then a mediocre-at-best single followed by the thud of an entire album - if they're lucky. After that - nothing. They might end up with scant random roles in B-movies or posing in some video or magazine. If they really get lucky they might find some publication interested in interviewing them to hear about their "time working with Prince." Regardless, they have so much potential and talent that their musical output typically begins and ends with Prince.

Its a sad day when I no longer care to read through more than a couple posts to get the latest news on Prince... The lack of any official store/web presence for Prince is baffling and the ship has probably passed on recapturing the interest of many die-hards like myself... His promotional team should be shot but I'm sure others have probably expressed the same.

Twinkly1

I just heard "Another Boy" and I liked the tune, the music and the vocals were not bad; after all its one song, one style. Bria's voice is not at the Whitney Houston level, but with time, training, etc. who knows? I hope it turns out well for both of them.

I think we all psyched ourselves out to prepare for what we wanted to hear; for me it was a tour announcement. lol

Keep Hope Alive!
