Prince doesn't challenge himself anymore?

Prince is stuck in the r&b and has stayed very safe over the past 5years or so. How come Prince doesn't say fuck it and go 4 a new vibe and sound. Prince did that with DM and 1999 and so on. Doesn't he realize the rut he has been going thru over the past 5 years? I just want him 2 experiment with different sounds and go back 2 being creative with his arrangements again cool

dont think I agree with you here, I think he's experimented with new sounds in the material he's produced that hes released over the last 5 yrs. Seemed like he was going back to the lab with the magical linn drum for the new album, keep your hopes up smile

well I don't think that's so true. NEWS was hardly rnb , neither was Xenophobia, yknow One Nite Alone was solo piano. There's been variety but it just doesn't seem like there has been a lot of inspiration. If anything he's been more jazz oriented and pop rather than rnb. A straight ahead rock album with lotsa solos would be something that he's never done.

Boy that song Guitar... that sure was R&B wasn't it?

You aren't satisfied with Prince's last 5 years. I bet he is. Fuck it.

Prince is not stuck, just listen to 3121 and Planet Earth more closely and you'll see.

I am glad as an Artist that I use my freedom to create as I choose. The music you love, you create.

These last 5 years he has shown some very creative work. I do not like most of his music but having been inspired by his works, I now create the music I like. Maybe instead of wanting someone else to do you, you should do you then you will not have a lack in your life and you will fill your own void.

Some watch, some do... Which r u? blowup

All in LOVE - I wonder what your music sounds like. What type of music do you find yourself singing in the shower, or humming without realising you even had a song in you?.... 4give my mouth, I am use to a different language. The truth.
I saw Prince cry
and I asked God why

The answer He gave
caused me 2 b saved

Now I cannot tell a lie

I think the difference is that many of his older songs used to be so original, but didn't always work. I just listened to Still Would Stand All Time and it was such a weird song. It had great moments and moments that sounded like the song was drifting aimlessly. Life Can Be So Nice is like no other song I've ever heard, but you could argue that it's a complete mess (not that I would argue that)

I think he got tired of people not getting his stuff, and beginning with Diamonds & Pearls, his stuff has been easy to digest. Often interesting & complex, but easy listening to some degree.

Nowadays his songs never drift aimlessly, but they are not always original. Te Amo Corazon, for example. I can barely listen to it. I feel like even he was bored. Incense & Candles, on the other hand is ridiculous and laughable--everything I love about Prince--but again, it's easy to understand.

He is still great at times, but he's lost that "huh?" factor, and I believe it's by design. I wish he hadn't made that decision, but I'm not Prince.

Maybe Prince challenges himself in other areas in his life. Hearing that Prince paints and does other things, leads me to believe that playing music just comes when the inspiration to write a new song comes along...I believe that artists have other avenues to inhale before they exhale the artwork they feel most comfortable with.

I am a writer...although I do a lot of other things that end up coming with me into my poetry. cool
