Should Prince cover 'Black Betty'?

There are several versions of this classic, what do U all think? Can U picture Prince playing or releasing his own version?

I don't think so and it has swearing in it. I think he'd look like and sound way too country for his style. "bam a lam" wink

"Black Betty" (Roud 11668) is a 20th century African-American work song often credited to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter as the author, though the earliest recordings are not by him. Some sources claim it is one of Lead Belly's many adaptations of earlier folk material;[1] in this case an 18th century marching cadence about a flint-lock rifle.

*****

In 1977, the rock band Ram Jam — whose members included Bill Bartlett, formerly of Starstruck and The Lemon Pipers — rerecorded the song with producers Jerry Kasenatz and Jeff Katz under Epic Records. The song became an instant hit with listeners, as it reached number 18 on the singles charts in the United States and the top ten in Australia. At the same time, the lyrics became the cause of a boycott by civil rights groups NAACP and Congress of Racial Equality, who claimed it insulted black women.

*****

Lyrics:

Woah, Black Betty
bam-ba-lam
Woah, Black Betty
bam-ba-lam

Black Betty had a child
bam-ba-lam
Black Betty had a child
bam-ba-lam

Damn thing gone wild
bam-ba-lam
Damn thing gone wild
bam-ba-lam

Ram Jam's Black Betty. Don't you like YouTube?

I kinda get why you think this might fit him, after Prince having covered Whole Lotta Love and doing the Santana Medley. Peach reminds me of this song, btw. Esp the drums.
And he'd have to totally re-imagine that unbelievable shabby guitar solo.

I must hear Prince sing "bam-a-lam".

Maybe he could also cover Old Time Rock n' Roll and Let it Ride, and all of my classic rock nightmares will be realized...

I think he already has.

Can you spot Prince's DNA in this picture?

Given the stuff he's done over the years, Prince needs to leave covers alone.
If this is wrong, then I long 2 be as far from right as I may.

I have always wondered if this is really prince or one of those wax figures. You know this was around the Las Vegas time... and there is the famous wax museum in Vegas. This pic looks like Tamar was sitting next to a wax figure.

I mean it is unlike Prince to pose for a pic and not look dead into the camera to give that killer look with those eyes.

I think he could do the song justice.

But ONLY if he makes a rock-based song, and leaves the horns at home.
