Hmmmmm well theres 3 albums I did not like on the first 3 listens, but funnly enoungh they would be in my top 10

1. ATWIAD - didnt really get it at first, not really a big psychedelic fan...altho on reapeted listens it has come on of my faves, Paisley Park, Pop Life, Raspberry Beret and the magnificent The Ladder are my fave tunes on this album

2. Come - Another album I didnt really like on the first few listens (apart from Space and Letitgo) but yet again it is a brilliant album and i truly appreciate it now (apart from Solo and Papa...cuz that creeps me out)

3. Parade - Again even tho it had catchy melodies..i just didnt get it, apart from Kiss and Girls and Boys..the latter being more significant because its 1 of my all time fave Prince songs

1. The Gold Experience
_ totally didn't feel like or sound like a Prince album. It was the 3rd album I picked up for a listen. Took me a while to get into, but now its one of my favorites.
_ best songs: Shh, Gold, TMBGITW, Dolphin and Hate U (everything else is pretty much so-so)

2. Come
_ I knew it'd take me a while, but after it started to make an impact on me (opposed to making none at all), I started to like it a lot
_ best songs: Solo, Space, Letitgo, and Dark (biggest grower on the album)

3. 1999
_ took me AGES to get in2 simply because it wasn't all that I thought it'd be. It was a lot of things I didn't expect, actually. But once I got in2 it, I've been loving it ever since
_ best songs: 1999, Little Red Corvette, Automatic, Something in the Water (Does not Compute)... the list goes on, but limited to D.M.S.R. and All the Critics love u in NY

That's just 3... but there were a bunch of others. The following were NOT growers:

I too felt really uncertain if I liked ATWIAD when I first heard it. I was 19 yrs old and put in my turntable,listening to it in my bedroom. I heard that shriek,scream or whatever you want to call it when it started and my face looked like this I thought immediately ok, this is going to take a while to grow on me. I was hooked on it shortly after that.

When I first heard The Rainbow Children at Paisley Park it wasn't that I didn't like it....I loved the music immediately, but I didn't understand all of it on the first listen. After some reading and studying I finally got it and I think that this is one of his best cds because it is so different from everything else he has ever done. There won't be anything like this ever again in my opinion.

I bought For You in 1984, and had everything else up to that point
I loved them all, but I had a tough time digesting For You
Maybe it was the song "In Love" which is still my least favorite on the album
But now, I just LOVE the entire album
It's one of the few that I have no problem listening to all the way through
And then putting on repeat again and again
His feel good albums are some of the best, this one included

I picked up the album because I thought it was rare and felt like taking a chance. I really didn't like it much at first
It was so bad that I almost stopped listening to Prince altogether. But yet, I still listen to him every day even after that.

It's grown on me, but its towards the bottom of the list of my favorite list of Prince albums. But at least its a little bit better than The Rainbow Children, which I've barely given time to grow. Listened to it 6-7 times and haven't tried again since.

i think Prince has always challenged his audience, mostly back in the day, even his 80's material took a few listens to get a grip of. I don't think this is a coincidence at all. Prince would be more popular and shifted more units if he was easy to listen to. He was brave enough to get away from Purple Rain vol.2 and that was totally by design. He has always played the game his way.

That's why he should be respected.

I'm still waiting for SOTT to grow on me....

"I like Funky Music" also grew on me a ton and It's a funk explosion as far as I'm concerned. My only problem with it is that the drums are almost too simple for my taste.
But I do have the album, and It's quickly becoming one of my most listened to Prince Albums that I'll put in and play from (in this case) Track 1 to 49.

the only song (not album) that really comes to mind is Lion of Judah. I thought the song was so-so at first, but now I really like it. I love listening to it when I'm feeling low.

In terms of album... I would say Graffiti Bridge.

had to be Come..its gonna sound stupid but i got it b cuz of the cover picture...that outfit!!! anyway..there was a slight time gap between the first time i played it and the second time...now i dont skip a song on it..tho Papa is a bit....
when my 1st copy was stolen, it was one of the 1st ones that i replaced..
(had my whole Prince CD library taken...)


still lookin 4 the rest,but in the meantime listening to what i have...
