The whole song just sounds so lovely and crisp.

I'm more and more convinced that in the future, the whole Musicology album will be looked upon as a Prince career high.

I love the bass line on this one. Love the vibe in general, reminds me of The Ballad of Dorothy Parker.

I Love it. "Musicology," is a great record. Prince is asking a question in this song, if he were asking me, I would say..bring a bottle of hair color when ya get here, cause the silver strands are sprouting daily. cool

Love the beat, the melody and the singing and atmosphere of the song even though it is too reminiscent of Dorothy Parker but the lyrics are a bit weak...and strangely, even the lyrical contents reminds me a bit of Dorothy Parker in the sense that it´s about the encounter of two people who find each other hot but are already committed to someone else.
It´s just that Dorothy Parker´s lyrics are way cooler than this "cousin"s lyrics.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

It's is rather Dorothy-ish. Has the same vibe. Golden Parachute also comes 2 mind.

I agree that this CD will be look upon with higher regard as the years go on. I love this song. It was the first song on Musicology that I put on repeat. It has that 80's vibe on it, especially with that Linn Drum on it. It's a great song.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Finally a thread I can reply too. I love love love this song. Proving I have too much time on my hands, I use to have a music video in my mind when this song came on my ipod. Prince performing in a small club and Madonna walks in and they both recognize each other as past lovers. So he performs this song being nervous and confused while she gives him her "sexy Madonna" face she does to entice him. Flashbacks of the past cut with their tense exchange looks throughout the song. At the end, she walks out and Prince snaps out of his "zone."

Ok I'm officially a sad person. But a sad "prince fan" person. razz

Plus, the bass line intertwined with that Linn drum beat is bananas. Tell me why younger musicians can't make sexy music like that?
